2022 Golf R Mk8

Previous topic got locked and merged with a News story in the AutoTrader section, but seeing as this is where we talk future models, figured I'd open a new one yet again (please don't beat me up, Brig!).

Will leave this here. :)

If you need someone to test one here in Mb...I'd be happy to take one off your hands for a year or 4.   ;D

Nonsense, if anybody's going to test a Golf R in Manitoba conditions, it had better be somebody who can drive the :censor: out of it.  BW, sorry, you're too old.  The R is a young man's car, therefore it should be me!

LOL at the video:  'What kind of engine is in it'  'It's a 2.0L turbocharged engine'  Ya, no :censor:, just like every single hot Golf in the last 15 years, lol.

Wonder what the price is going to be?

Guessing it will be within a couple grand of the old one.

The performance is definitely enticing but that front end hasn't completely grown on me yet.

I think that class is about to blow up.  A higher performance Veloster is on the way, a new Civic Type R in a years time, and a new STI which appears to be coming with 394 hp.

One last hurrah before ICE is gone.
I think there's a Corolla hot hatch coming in a year or two as well.  But I guess that's more of a GTI competitor.

It'll be interesting how much all these vehicles will end up being.

Price will be a bit higher than the current car, but probably less than you'd think considering the leap in content (sunroof, HUD, lots more comfort features, etc.) and performance.

As for the design, all I can say is it's miles better in person. This one really doesn't translate to photo/video very well for whatever reason.

:rofl2: You jokers are lucky I don't apply a "Forum Surcharge" in the back-end!

On the other hand, as soon as I can get one as a company car, I'll basically just drive a string of them over the next few years. Lots of opportunities for well cared-for, lightly-used examples  ;)

The last one started at $43K.  No way this hits $60K.
When I bought my Golf R in 2015 it's MSRP was $39,999.  It steadily went up over the years but did add a few things.  Increasing the price of the MK8 is to be expected with the added features, heck just the addition of a sunroof is worth a grand or two.

I think Patrick hinted there would be a slight increase but yeah no where near 60K. Probably mid to high 40s.

No one will be disappointed with the pricing. Except maybe our competitors.

Remind me when the CDN release date is.

We'll see them in the fall. Mine should be on the first boat - Lapiz Blue with three pedals. Note that our car will come "fully loaded" except for the crazy titanium valved exhaust (working on it for future years). So it has the larger 19s and bi-level wing not seen on that unit in the Carwow video.

Sadly the Spektrum program is gone, otherwise I'd have had one in brown for sure. But not before I got one in British Racing Green.

Also, all of mine will be manual. The DSG is objectively better in every way. I don't care.
