I am impressed!!! Great to finally see one car maker put out a good product at a honest price. Great job!

I ordered one this morning.    Blue, DSG, no sunroof.

If the ID4 had a known delivery in Canada decision may have been different.  The only dealer for the ID4 around  wasn't sure when they would even get one for people to loo  at and touch let alone buy.

Congrats!

I really wish these were offered in more colours. The blue is nice, but c'mon, just three colours?
If you had a choice of colours in the VW catalogue what would you choose?  The blue is pretty nice and likely the best color of the R.  But there are a couple of other colours that I would have loved to have seen.  I liked that green that they offered on the Jetta a couple of years ago, it's was like a forest green.  The other color that I'd love to make a resurgence is from waaaay back in 2007 when they made a limited edition GTI called the fahrenheit, I'm sure you remember it, that orange is sweet.

If I had a choice.  Tornado red please.

Yes.
All the youtubes about the car I have seen say not cooled but most of those were of a UK spec car.

I'm not so sure 17s will fit the new R. They still fit the GTI, but according to my official specs, the larger front brakes on the new R require 18" minimum due to the bigger 357 mm rotors. That doesn't mean there isn't some aftermarket option out there with crazy backspacing that might squeeze over, but I'm doubtful.

I will buy which ever size fits  but I would prefer the higher sidewalls that will be possible with 17s.   Guelph is blessed (?) with many high and rough curbs.   So I will look for steelies.

I don't think i've ever seen a Golf R with steelies before.  I'm not sure they would fit over the brakes, but I could be wrong.

All the domestic reviews of the new GTI are based on the Euro spec vehicle. Does anyone know if there have been any reviews that detail the differences with the domestic version? (It may have been buried in this thread, but I must have glanced over it.)

If the Variant was going to be sold in Canada, which it won't be, I would change my order immediately.

Congrats tpl!  I just ordered one to replace my wife's 128i, black 6MT, no sunroof.  Will be a long wait (hopefully before summer), but there wasn't anything else that fit her criteria - sporty, hatch, 6MT, nice interior, and AWD.

Yeah he's a lucky man if fact that really is "her" criteria.  Also congrats on it.  I'm looking forward to test driving the new GTI and R, likely the spring before there will be one available to test drive.  I have seen the Golf R with DSG is getting around 4 seconds flat 0-60 and a 12 second car in the quarter mile.  Needless to say the HP numbers are likely understated a bit.

New vehicle shortage is off the scale. Just for fun I looked up New Vehicle Inventory at some of the local dealer websites, Chevrolet GMC Cadillac - 6, VW - 5, Audi - 11, Honda _ 39 of which 35 were the new Civics!!. My GMC salesperson told me that in the pre pandemic, pre shortage days they used to have 100-150 vehicles in new inventory.

Best to hang on to existing vehicles and venture into the market in a year's time or maybe more when new vehicle supplies improve even though this Golf R is drool worthy.
