What a great find. Looking forward to hearing about the ownership experience.

If it's been sitting for years it might be a good idea to have a look for mouse nests under the engine cooling shroud, you can stick an inspection camera in through the cooling fan/alternator.  They like the tops of the cylinders and the oil cooler at the front passenger side of the engine.

If there are no leaks that means a lot of stuff has already been replaced/serviced, any records of what was done?   How many miles since last time valve clearance was checked?

I was going to say "I hate you!" in the most friendly manner, then remembered my own TR6 deal  ;D

Congrats on that fantastic find! The SC to my eyes is the perfect balance of past and modern 911's, peak 911 in other terms. And it's a Targa !!

Somehow, Mrs. Hire loves this thing. Of course, she hasn’t seen it yet so it’s only in photos, but I’ll take what I can get! Spring can’t come fast enough...

His wife? Indeed !! I added the TR6 to our assets summary. My wife said: "That's not an asset, that's a money pit!"  ;D

Watched some Hoovies Garage on 911's, that's some potentially deep water you're wading in

On the other hand it seems the value of these things has gone nuts, so maybe you can't lose

I don't think Hoovie has done any air cooled 911 stuff, though has he?  I believe most of the problems he had were with the early liquid cooled motors.

I think all the air cooled cars are pretty much known entities, as to what to expect, and how much money will need to be put into them.  Like, at some point, the engine needs to come out, be split apart for some major service/rebuild.  Big indicator here is if it starts to burn oil (I think?  I'm not a porsche expert - just what I've absorbed on the internet here and there).

They normally burn oil.   ;D
3.0 liter 911 engines are pretty reliable,  but lots of rubber and plastic bits get old and hard and have to eventually be replaced in a 40 year old car.  Engines don't often have to be split,  transmissions....... :shuffle:

And I was ETERNALLY jealous. An air-cooled 911 has been on my "must-have" list since forever, and many here know that about a decade ago, I passed on a '91 964 around $10,000-12,000 assuming that it'd be even cheaper down the road. Boy was I wrong.

Anyway, I followed a lead to a literal barn find, a "non-runner". Guy wasn't sure what was up with this 1979 911 SC, but he's the original owner and it's spent a bunch of its life serviced at Downtown Porsche. He stopped driving it a few years ago (plate expired 2018) and he wasn't sure why it wouldn't start.

OMG I'm getting old, my first look at your red 911 SC a very nice traditional Porsche look as I knew them younger... I didn't realize immediately this classic is ~ 40 years old now... Enjoy your barn find, she already looks awesome after a first bath!!
