Bob..one of my favorite websites has an ongoing Tundra project. Wheels, tires, suspension, etc

Part 4 had some interesting OEM accessories (fold away steps, bed extender, etc)

Maybe you'll find some use from this series.

surely there some Hercules tires available...beefy treads for that off road look but a high enough sidewall for that smooth no-bump ride.  ;D

For rim and tire sizing try this website:
https://www.customwheeloffset.com/?
I used to use this site a lot when I was in the truck accessory biz. Great for figuring out what size and offset will work with any given truck.

As I say that, think about your offsets, the stock Tundra rims have a lot of positive offset, so dropping it down a bit will bring the tire closer to the outside edge of the fender and look a lot better. Just be careful with upsizing the diameter, especially if you push the offset out. I used 285/55/R20 on the Tundra, with no lift, and I forget the offset details, but definitely with less positive than stock. My research at the time suggested it would be OK, but I wound up having to 'clearance' quite a bit of plastic out of the front wells.

I second Fob's reco for the Cooper Discoverer at3 xlt, very off-road/aggressive looking All-Terrain tire, but with road manners comparable to some of the mid-range highway LT tires out there.

Another popular mod for owners of non-TRD trucks are to replace the shocks with Bilsteins 5112/6112's.  Apparently they improve the ride a fair bit.

That would be my first particularly considering the mileage.

Just be careful with upsizing the diameter

I wasn't going to change the total diameter at all, don't see the point.

But yes I will look at offsets too. Although they always confuse me! I always think the number should be going the other way around.

Jeff, what tires was it you were recommending again?

Heya... my recommendations for tires:

BF Goodrich K02s
GoodYear Wrangler Duratrac  (basically GY's competitor to the vaunted K02s)
Falken Wildpeak A/T3W

All three are proper all-terrain tires (which means they not only look beefy, but they're built to drive over gnarly stuff), but all three also have the snowflake-mountain symbol rating them for winter use, as well.

The Falkens are likely to be notably more affordable than the other two, but deals are frequently seen on any of them.  I've driven machines off road with each of those tires and they all handle a multitude of conditions very well.

A/T tires will be more durable and good all-year round, but I would be surprised if your mileage didn't suffer somewhat.  You may also notice they're noisier at speed, and at slow speed on pavement, you may also feel the knobs through the steering wheel.  (Think about how you can feel a knobbier tire on pavement through the handlebars of a bike, and it's the same sort of thing).

As someone else recommended above, do not go for M/Ts (Mud Terrain tires).

You'll likely want an actual winter tire too.

I always had to argue this with our fleets, but we found even the cheapest winter tire was a big improvement over an A/T. These big dogs have a lot of weight to stop

I can attest to that.  AT with the mountain/snowflake don't compare to my Blizzaks.

I've ridden in a friends Tacoma with the K02s and was impressed with their refinement considering how beefy they are.  They weren't loud and seemed to drive well on the highway.

That would be my recommendation.

Otherwise, just get the Michelin LTX's if you're not after the offroad looks.

I had the Duratrac's on my Wrangler and they were great all year round... much better in the snow than the Michelin X-ice 2's that I ran for 1 winter on it.

Wait a couple of months for the spring rebates and sales before buying tires.

Another option would be to trade the wheels you have for what you want, put an ad on Kijiji

I hate most aftermarket wheels that people put on their trucks.  If I was looking to replace my stock 18" wheels (which I'm not because I like them), I'd try to find a set of the forged BBS wheels that come on the Tundra TRD Pro.

Normally I would agree, but I think the the Method and SCS wheels look better than the TRD ones.

They're not too bling.

The latest TRD wheels look good, but they are megabucks expensive.
