The way I see it, is it's $30K for a truck that costs what $50K + tax new? That is broken in, but still has a lot of life left? I'm Ok with that.

Yep...let some other sucker take the depreciating hit.

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Can't go wrong with a Tundra! I'm sure you'll love owning a truck.

Sweeeeet.  Congrats on the truck.  I'm so happy to add to the Tundra club on the forum.  And the DC makes sense for you over the CrewMax.  Are you able to fit two bikes in the box and close the tailgate?

So, you've had a string of smaller, nimble, powerful cars.  I'm curious what your thoughts are on the drivetrain of the truck.

And, was a Tacoma ever in the running?  I know the seating position isn't for everyone, but I feel like you're on the smaller side.  Just wondering, if a Tacoma was ever considered, and what pushed you over to the Tundra?

I didn't really know whether I wanted CrewMax or Double Cab. The back doors on the Tundra seem larger than other brands' double cabs (like less of a temporary seat if you know what I mean), not sure if it's an illusion or not. When I test drove it, I set up the driver and passenger seats, then sat in the back. Not cavernous like a CrewMax, but more than enough for an adult, and therefore my growing spawn. And I didn't realise until later that the double cab layout gives you that foot back in the bed, so 6.5ft bed yay! AFAIK you can get two dirtbikes in a 5.5ft bed fairly easily, so 6.5ft will be no problem at all. I can probably get them nearly straight.  Just bought some good quality arched ramps the other day.

I've driven truck before, so it drives like a truck. The engine feels like it has a ton of torque, albeit I seem to be driving very slowly!  :rofl2:  it's weird, I find myself driving 10kmh less than what I think I am, which is probably a good thing. I'm not sure if it's because I'm so high up.

If I was going to get a Tacoma I'd get a new one, and that didn't achieve the goal I wanted, so not really in the running. Plus I need to cart around a family of four and stuff easily. The 6.5ft bed with this one was the killer deal.

Having a big heavy vehicle, and being high up is making me drive super sensibly.  :rofl2:

Woot! Most excellent choice.

great choice...can't go wrong with a Tundra...you can get a solid decade out of that truck (if you want to) with minimal fuss.

Looks good! Thought something to haul your bikes around would be handy. Our neighbours son has had a couple Tundras, these are the mods he added as well. A bit of a lift, nicer wheels, and a better flowing exhaust (could well be the TRD) to let that V8 rumble

Both mechanics we know own Tundras, they like how they are built

Nice find!!! These are great trucks! My cousin has had 4 in a row that he racks up the mileage on them out in Alberta, beats the :censor: out of them for work & play (avid hunter & fisherman) and they don't miss a beat. Last time I was out west his latest had a leveling kit on the front & a 2" lift on the back & then bigger wheels & tires... that would be a good addition for yours. The other thing he always got was the TRD performance exhaust dealer installed, made the V8 sound f'n fantastic! These would be the 2 mods I'd consider in your shoes. Again, nice purchase!

Excellent choice Bob. Did you find used truck prices to be crazy high? I mean you paid $30k all in, after trade, for a 4-5 year old truck with 140k...  :o The used truck market has skyrocketed.

The way I see it, is it's $30K for a truck that costs what $50K + tax new? That is broken in, but still has a lot of life left? I'm Ok with that.

I would only be worried about the age or mileage if it was domestic.

People bulk at me paying 10 grand all in for a 2011 Camry. The used car market has complete change in the last 10 years. So have the cars. That truck with careful servicing will last you and will easily go 600,000 clicks. It really isn't lot these days, 30 large. You can't beat a Toyota. My Camry feels tight and new.

Congrats Bob.  :)

Yes, a half-ton is hardly what one could call 'nimble'.  Ponderous is more like it.  And I hear you r.e. the slower driving.  I rarely drive drive aggressively with the truck - it's just not predisposed to it.

Here's a tip.  To fully turn off traction/stability control, you need to press the TC button once to partially turn off TC, then you press and hold the TC button for a few seconds until the dashboard lights up, and voila, TC and Stability Control are 100% defeated.  Now go do some empty parking lot donuts!

From a Lotus to a truck  that's middle age for you!      I thought I was bad from a Lotus to a Volvo...but it took 46 years to get there! ( and a change of country as you did)

Nice truck.

Nice unit Bob, I too like the proportions of the double cab.

And yes, two bikes fits nicely in the back with the tailgate up. It is a couple inches short to have them straight on so you have to angle them. Not a big deal.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Nice spec! Don't see many double cabs, but I think the proportions are better, and the 6.5ft box is definitely a big deal over the 5.5ft....I find a 5.5ft is small, even with the tailgate down, for nearly everything I try to haul...

As for accessories - I did a build on a Tundra for work a couple years ago; mostly aesthetic stuff for a magazine shoot, but I do remember that there was a TRD rear sway bar, which I ordered directly from a Toyota dealer, that came highly recommended from the Tundra forum and really tightened up the backend. If memory serves, ours (a 1794 edition) had halogen headlamps that were terrible so I go some aftermarket projector assemblies and ran LED bulbs.
I am a little foggy on exactly how this worked, but I recall ours (a CrewMax) had like a carpeted foam hump under the rear seat, useless space, so I order a kit from somewhere that bascially had me cutting out a section of that carpet/foam and inserting a couple plastic storage bins. I'll have to see if I can dig up a photo because the end result was pretty nice, and provided a lot of extra storage. Just not sure if the DC is the same back there or not.

Other than that, I'd tint the front windows to match the rears and get a nice set of in-channel vent visors for it - but that's more of a personal preference than a real recommendation.

I may be mistaken, but I feel like the DC has storage under the seat already.
