Replaced the All Seasons on the QX60
« on: October 27, 2020, 05:47:19 pm »
Finally got around to getting new rubber on Mrs. Railton's QX60 today. The OEM tires were Bridgestone Dueler H/P Sport AS. They were quiet but wore out quicker than I thought they would at only 62K
I ended up going with Goodyear Assurance Max Life in OEM size - 235/55VR20. The speed rating for this tire is a V and the originals were H rated. They are suppose to give 140,000 km tread wear rating. We'll see. Got to be more than 62K!
The price was $902 installed and balanced with taxes in at the Goodyear Auto Center near me, 350 Air miles, Road Hazard protection, free rotations every 10k.
They don't look to bad either.

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?

that seems like a pretty good price for 20s, especially from a quality brand.

Yeah, not a bad price for a V rated 20" brand name tire. I actually found a cheaper price somewhere else and the Good Year guy matched it, but didn't better it.
Supposed to be Good Year's latest tire technology. It's on a big old SUV so I'm not buying Michelin Pilot Sports for it. As long as it is quiet, drives about the same or better and gives longer life I'll be happy with it.
The other tires I was debating were the Good Year Assurance Weather-Ready and the BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport LT Tires.
You can read all the reports and comparisons and shop around but at the end of the day it kind'a crap shoot. I disn't know this but Good Year gives you 30 days to bring them back if you don't like them

I came pretty close to buying a V8 FX several years ago.

Railton, that's a great price on the tires!

:o  Hope I live long enough to see that.  I don't keep cars long enough to see what kind of tread life I get out of an OEM tire which are never top tier anyways (within their own brand).  If it's a Bridgestone, it's a crappy one.  Same for Michelin, Continental (on the MDX) looks unimpressive as well.  Talking All Seasons here.

My Mustang came with Goodyears aka "good for a year"  ;D.  Can't comment on the tread life, but they came with a very pronounced rub rail that greatly protects the alloy.  Super impressed with that feature.

Son's F150 came with Goodyear ATs.  Seems Ford has an alliance with Goodyear.

My latest Volt came Goodyear Assurance, I find them very adequate for the car. Happy riding Mrs. Railton.

Great looking vehicles, my head still turns when one goes by. Infinity really had their styling down in that era

Yes they did. Those wheels were 21". They would have cost me considerably more to shod the old FX with new rubber. Likely close to $500 a tire.

All it took was a turn or two to notice a difference in the QX60’s handling with these new Good Year tires.
I suspect it’s due to them being V speed rated instead of the original H rated tires. The sidewalls are likely stiffer so the ride is a little more taut with less flex.
Anyways, the difference was pretty much immediate and to my liking.

Just an update on the Goodyear tires installed.
Yesterday morning walked out to find the RR completely flat. ~4000kms on the set of four. Took out my compressor and filled it up to spec, noted the pressure and checked it again this morning. The tire had lost 10psi overnight.
Phone Goodyear and hey say bring it in. They found a pin hole puncture about 1" down from the tread surface. The verdict, not fixable, new tire time and covered under the road hazard warranty.
Still impressed with these tires - quiet, comfortable and ride more to my liking than the OEM tires.

Good to hear!

Goodyear seems to stand by their product - Dad got his Goodyear Eagle Sports replaced (2 or 4 I forget) on his old TL under warranty.

I believe the MaxLife are made in Canada!
