The clearest indication that enthusiasts are a dwindling minority in the car buying universe is the lemming like rush towards generic CUVs.

Yer, I agree the industry would love us all driving $40,000+, CUVs, with never ending lease terms, because that where the car industry makes the most profit and the sweet spot. CUV's can justify the higher prices, hidden with lower longer lease payments.  I've found modern cars are all bland these days. I drive a Camry, My Nephew is driving an Audi A4, there is hardly any difference between them. Those days are long gone of interesting basic cars for the mass consumer. I think you need to step back to 80-90's for that. Lol.

The only things I like about this new Civic is less 1.5t engine and the cool vent system.  I hate the lack of a manual and the BORING exterior design.  Let’s hope the hatch is better and the Sinand Type R.

I think I still wouldn't trust the 1.5 Turbo. Honda Confirmed on the manual only for Si and Type R. No Slush box.

Its the one obvious thing Honda hasn't learned (or chose to ignore) over the years, many people like power/torque and automatics (and not CVTs). So they didn't bother developing anything. The Accord 2.0T and 10 speed can't be shoehorned into a luxury model Civic, wouldn't that sell?

Civic has been the top selling passenger car for many many years and Corolla is finally outselling them this year. I don’t think the CVT is hurting them. To people buying a commuter car, an automatic is an automatic is an automatic.

Yeah, true, and they won't have a problem selling a bunch of them either, base engine or 1.5t.

I was thinking more of the performance versions, and possibly the upcoming hatch. There are different market segments available for the Civic, and Honda only fills one (performance, stick shift). The other segment is plentiful enough power and torque (2.0T) + luxury including much needed sound deadening, and adjustable suspension, to compete with cars like my GLi.

Honda reveled the Hatch today. Weird, the leak original image was bang on, and was in fact the hatchback.

With taxes, even the base Civic is $30k.

Civic base is just under 25,000 which is just crazy, that was midsize money not so long ago.  ::)

Inflation tax. Side effect when Bank of Canada (and the rest of the central banks) create money supply out of thin air. Your purchasing power is going dooooown.

^^ My 2012 Civic LX cost just over $20,000. It's quite  a jump in price but the latest version is better equipped .  :-\

I have had no issues with this car/ appliance in the 9.5 years I have owned it. ;D

How does this compare to the competition price wise.  Am I wrong to think the Corolla, Mazda 3, Sentra, and Hyundai twins all start under $20k?

Yes, there a bouts, It isn't that much of step up either. interesting.

incidentally the Versa seems like a steal at almost 10 grand less, just put money by, for a CVT. ;D you'd still be quids in.

You can buy a Mazda 3 loaded for $35k.  Now that is shocking.

Maybe not so much now. Lol. No wonder why used cars are so expensive.

In Ontario a loaded Corolla XSE hatch is roughly $35,000 OTR.
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...
