Car and Driver says manual transmissions available for Si and Type R models only.
Sounds about right.  Any idea if the hatchback will be around in the next generation?

Already out testing, with the usual camouflage.

I wonder if they'll have an Si version of it?

Press release came in my inbox last evening, all sedans are CVT only, and only the Touring gets the 1.5t.

Touring gets 12-speaker Bose audio, my pet peeve with Civics is the awful stereos in all trims - this should improve things.

No news yet on the hatches and Si's...

Si hatch would be the sweet spot in the lineup.

I think there'll be at least one manual lower trim model in Canada.

Honestly I figured they'd go all auto's for the sedan (Si exempt) and have a couple of trims of the hatchback that offer a manual.  But looks like they will be getting rid of the manuals as much as possible.

No manual (regular) sedans for Canada in the press release.

I looked at 'all the Canadian specs' link, and while I do really like the look of the top of the line Touring model, frankly the whole thing is starting to leave me flat, meaning the car doesn't  bring much to the table IMO.

My previously owned 2017 Elantra Sport had far better power, torque and transmission than this, and had some things like a heated steering wheel that this doesn't. A direct competitor to the Touring model in the "non luxury compact sedan" segment (meaning, road noise will come as standard equipment  :rofl2: ). The only option I can see that will likely be better is the Bose 12 speaker sound system (the Elantra's Infinity system was OK, but likely not as good).

No manual sucks.  But this car currently has brutal rev hang so unless they could fix that, the manual experience was substandard anyway.

The rev hang is done on purpose for emissions reasons.  Helps reduce NOX by limiting lean mixture conditions.  I don't think they're ever going to get rid of it, at least on their NA engines.  It's been an 'issue' for Honda since the mid 2000's.  I know my 2008 Si with the k20 had pretty vicious rev hang.

That sounds like a very easy thing to tune out though, like the torque dip in the GT86

Oh Yes.  On that generation of SI, a popular mod was an ECU tune that would lower the VTEC activation from the stock 5800rpm to 4500rpm.  It also re-tuned to remove the rev-hang, which I'm sure had a negative effect on emissions.

True.

Any decent tuner should be able to be returned back to stock without a trace. Also, its a Honda, whats this warranty stuff you speak of, thats a BMW thing  ;D

Tell that to the 1.5T owners.

Or the early 2000's Odyssey/Pilot owners with junk transmissions.  Honda ain't perfect.

Perfect timing for this Car and Driver article.  I loved my 1982 Civic 1500GL.  Came with tach, 5 spd, cloth seats, scrappy attitude and never got less than 50 mpg highway.

A Visual History of the Honda Civic
The first Civic went on sale in the early 1970s for under $2000.

Its so huge! I wonder if Honda would consider brining over a smaller model from Europe to fit under the Civic. I fear not as they already killed the Fit in NA.  :banghead:

They have the HR-V, which I believe fits the bill.

I'm impressed with what comes standard on the base LX, such as heated front seats and auto climate. Of course, all the safety junk is bundled in but honestly, seeing how ppl drive, it may not be the worst idea. Oh, and it's great port injection is back!

First Look, it's pretty nice. Basically same spec as last gen, with a tiny improvement on fuel. More conservative styling.
