$75000 for a Jetta in a fancy frock?!?!?!?!?!

So awd sedan, thats exciting, Impreza STI. A sports car, Corvette, Camaro, Mustang plus they will sound awesome as opposed to a 4 banger. $75k for a fancy VW pfffffttttt.

Lighten up Francis.....

No, 48,000 Euro and that includes 19% VAT. The article says that converts to $73,900. Take 19% off and its $62,100 pre-tax. Also, a direct conversion never works. Vehicles are cheaper in NA. It will be roughly the same as the current S3 which starts at $48,400

$50k for a 4 cylinder car is still a lot to swallow, but thats a lot more acceptable.

Why bother doing the conversion when it's mostly meaningless? Just gets people into a tizzy.

It's basically a Golf R with nicer sheet metal and interior. Golf R is $43,895 with DSG. Makes it a $4.5k difference for the looks.. oh and the badge of course.  ::)

Ha ha, "Airplane!". Just watched it again, hilarious yet over-the-top silly. However a movie that could never be made today in our puritan politically correct world.

S3 looks good to me.

See, that badge meant something to me when they were making kick ass, 5 cylinder, rally monsters.....today, I wouldn't pay a nickel over a VW for most of their models as they are not anything special. An Audi RS2, worth every penny, Sport quattro or a quattro coupe, sure, I would pay all the money to have one of those. Otherwise, I don't get the falling over the audi badge with their lineup today.

Only the A3/S3/Q3/TT are that closely related to VWs. The RS3 still has a five cylinder and pretty much everything else is on the MLBevo platform as opposed to the MQB platform. The only VW on that platform is the new Touareg (not sold here).

What I find weird is the upcoming Golf R is supposed to have 330hp, so why is the Audi S3 only 305hp?  As much as I like the looks of the S3 I just couldn't pay the premium over a VW Golf R.

Plus the proportions are all wrong. It looks like an otherwise svelte design with a case of the mumps. Pretty meh. The Golf R, on the other hand and unlike the S3, doesn’t look like they started the design of the sheet metal on a Friday and finished it on Monday after a weekend in between where they forgot what they were doing.

So it doesn't get too close in performance to the upcoming RS3.

Hmmm, maybe.  I just figured when the new A3/S3 come out the RS3 will go away and if there is another generation it too will increase the HP numbers.

I don’t agree. The mk 6 and 7 look pretty nice with creases in the right places and good proportions. Beauty is in the eye and all that....

Yup...

Lots of people like them.

I just think the Jetta is vanilla looking too.

I think the current Jetta looks fine but it's definitely nothing special.
