Regular inflation with repair kit inflator
« on: July 14, 2020, 12:00:04 am »
Hi,

I have a dunlop tech tire repair kit in my car. Can I use the inflator (without the sealant bottle) to adjust tire pressure, as part of regular maintenance? I'm tired of paying 2$ at the gas station for 2 or 3 psi. I was about to shop for an inflator when I though I might have a free one sitting in the trunk.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

If it is not painfully slow then go ahead and use it of course.

If you need something faster and more convenient there are digital inflators out there where you can set desired tire pressure and it shuts off automatically. I got mine in Costco and it's Motortrend branded. I think Slime has the same model but I'm not 100% sure.

Buy a bike floor pump and get some exercise at the same time.

I've got one of these in the Jeep and it will easily bring up a flat truck/Jeep tire in a few minutes. I imagine a car tire would be no problems at all.

I have a little Slime model I use all the time.  The little 12volt units do eventually wear out and some are much better than others.

Go ahead and use the Dunlop kit

Slime your tires if you hate your tire guy.

Thank you all for the suggestions. As Blur911 said, compressors can wear out, so I'll keep the emergency kit in good condition in case of an emergency... Glad to hear it's possible to use it as any compressor though.

No, no, they are fine for years, mine has been on for hours and hours due to various slow leaks.   I mean, don't use it every day, it'll get monotonous as they are slow as hell, but monthly duty would be fine.    They usually give some warning before dying.

If I didn't have either, I might go for something like this:

https://www.amazon.ca/STANLEY-J5C09-Jump-Starter-Compressor/dp/B002X6VXL4

Half the time my Slime 12v compressor is hooked up to my booster pack anyhow to do trailer or bike tires.

I have one of these and love it. Requires a RyobiOne+ 18V battery.
