If J went retail, I would use walltowalltires.com. prices are very competitive to even my employee discount, they typically are only just above cost on most tires. Good selection too. Based out of Greely, ON.
Yup, can't beat walltowall here in Ottawa.

Got the safety done with winter tires so that's out of the way.

Now debating if I should buy new shoes this year or next (that's given).

Got the summer wheels back from storage to take a look and measure the thread myself. They are indeed low on thread - between 3-4 mm on the lowest point so they are at the limit.
I lean towards keeping them this season given that I don't anticipate a lot of driving in the next few months. Perhaps I will put the winters on few weeks earlier than usual given they are on the last season as well.

Yeah, I'd just put the summers on & run them until the fall if you're not going to be doing a lot of driving. Then next spring you'll need new summers... and in the fall new winters as well by the sounds of it.

Out of boredom at one point yesterday I went on Kijiji to check what's out there for used alloy wheels for the GTI for my winter setup. I prefer VW OEM alloy from a Golf MK7 and I deliberated long and hard with myself if I should go for 16" or 17". In the end I decided to go for 16" so I have a bit more sidewall.

I found these 16" Toronto VW OEM wheels that came on Golf Comfortline and I'm thinking to make an offer:

https://www.kijiji.ca/v-view-details.html?adId=1495071324

The seller states OBO so I would offer a bit less under asking - $400 would be my upper ceiling provided the wheels don't have major scuffs or curb rushes. From picture it looks like one wheel may have a small curb rush (the one on the left) and the ones in the back are partially covered. I asked the seller to send me full picture of each wheel before I decide to make the trip (awaiting....).

I have to say I like the design of that wheel and I know it fits my GTI (my steelies are 16"). The offset on these is 46mm vs 49-51mm on dedicated GTI wheels but I don't think this is an issue (or hope so).

Thoughts?

I really like those wheels.  They will fit just fine.

Looks like I will drive to Ajax tonight to pick them up. The seller accepted my offer for $300.

Looks like one wheel has a small curb rush but the rest look good.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.
