Is it possible their natural 'rusty coloration' didn't care either way?  ;D

Well, Sh!tcar has it's first actual problem that I'll need to address.  There's a power steering leak coming from the left side of the car.  It's leaving a big patch of power steering fluid all over my driveway  :(

I guess that means I need to actually do something about it.  Hopefully it's just a leaky hose and should be a relatively cheap fix.  Still.

Not bad, just a hose and if you really don’t want to fix it you don’t have to…just go with armstrong steering. No oil = no leak!

I was about to ask where you buy the conversion for an Armstrong steering system, but then my brain finally woke up  ;D

That would be the way to go, but A) I really enjoy powersteering, and B) the whine that the PS pump makes when it's empty is almost unbearable.  I wouldn't have any issues just topping off the reservoir with some ATF every so often, but it leaks onto my driveway.

I think I'll get this one fixed - as long as it's something cheap like a hose.  If I need a replacement steering rack or something else expensive, fuhgettaboutit.  I'll go with the top up method and make sure to park on the gravel part of my driveway.  Just more ammunition to replace it with a new Corolla, lol.

It is.  But I might be able to make the case that the Corolla is cheap enough that it doesn't count  ;)  Plus it's more of a point A to point B vehicle as opposed to a vehicle that fulfills 'wants'.

It's like telling her you're going to pick up a couple of appliances and coming home with a Maytag and a Corolla.

The end of Sh!tcar! What's next?
« Reply #72 on: August 05, 2021, 07:19:24 pm »
Welp, it's the steering rack.  $1200 for a replacement, labour in.

As far as I'm concerned, the car is mechanically totalled.  The paint on it sucks, unrepaired accident damage from the previous owner (crumpled fender), AC doesn't work (not a recharge, I think it's the expansion valve), there's a clunk coming from the front suspension, and Oh, Yeah, it's got 329 000kms.

I'm putting it up for sale 'as is' for $1500, will try to get $1000.  Engine/tranny still work beautifully, and the car drives great.

Something is replacing it.  We pick it up on Saturday.  Any guesses?

Good guess, but no.  Almost as boring as that, though.

Ding ding.  Well that was easy.  Guess I'm predictable.  A 2012 EX Sedan with 153k kms for $11k.  It's a very clean car.  Full service records, great condition.  Even though it's nine years old, this one isn't a beater!

Nice, well if you can get similar kms out of this one it should last you a long time.

Mine is at about 145,000 km. $11 K ? I should trade mine in. In Nova Scotia that car would probably sell for 8-9.

What colour?

We're buying it from the same used car dealer we bought our Altima and Grand Caravan from.

It's got new All Season Tires, new brakes, full maintenance history (two owner car, first was a lease, the second owner has owned it since then, and is a personal friend of the dealer - he sold it to them to buy an RDX).  Remote Start, and a full set of winter tires mounted on rims included.
