Got a really nice text from Careener the other day... he saw the Touareg go on BaT and reached out to me to say hi. Super nice guy; he's been gone from these parts for a while but I sold him my old clapper Mk4 Jetta TDI leave behind.

Good to hear he’s doing well.

I'll post this here so the regulars will see, without gathering too much attention: Andy left Trader (had a great job offer in the US). He's the guy that took care of the forums, posted the Trader articles and generally kept this place ship shape. And he was a fantastic co-worker, even if we never met in person. You may have noticed him posting sometimes to follow-up with site issues, and seen his name in forum notifications.

I will get in touch with some colleagues to see who's the lead moderator now.

Good for Andy!

Thanks to him for keeping the lights on in this little corner of the Internet.

Great news for him, just hope it doesn't mean impending doom for the forum.

One day this place will go dark and that will be that.

Will my 14 year old Land Rover outlast the forum? The race is on.   ;D

I've formerly addressed this with the content creators at Trader I'm friends with, that this forum is indeed still alive and well. Other than DriverJeff, nobody from the content creation side is actually involved or engaged here. Effectively it's around as long as it takes until someone in IT remembers that it's still around and bills are being paid... and then the plug will be pulled.

Almost becoming a missing person myself - with work, vacation and printed car book deadline looming, I'm doing 30 hr days  :P  Next week I should be able to come up for air, and post reviews of the Jaaaag, Expedition, WRX RS and GR 86 Trueno. In the meantime, wrap your head around this: I'm driving a $70k Hornet this week.

A $70k Hornet without an Alfa badge? Yikes.

Will be interested what your thoughts are. Other reviews are not exactly promising  :)

But the broader issue is Dodge is aiming the Hornet at a customer I’m not sure really exists. There’s a reason Volkswagen hasn’t built a Tiguan GTI, Honda hasn’t sold a CR-V Si, and the Toyota GR RAV4 remains a figment of our fevered dreams. Driving enthusiasts are spoiled for choice outside of the CUV segment while compact crossover shoppers simply don’t value performance the same way that Dodge’s loyal muscle car shoppers do. That leaves me worried that when the Hornet goes on sale, the only one it will sting is Dodge

I'm not quite sure I buy that argument in a world where the Macan and all of its competitors exist.

The difference is the large majority of Macan and similar buyers don't buy it for performance; they buy it for the badge prestige, and the fact that it's still somewhat practical and affordable. Hornet offers negative badge prestige, which at these prices is a must to get any sales. I actually think it's a decent concept, but the pricey killed it, if it was half of the current price, it would fly off lots with the typical Stellantis customers

I hear most are actually selling over list, dealers can keep them in stock. Incredibly strong demand for the PHEV models especially.
