Okay, so my wife's Rav4 hybrid should be here this week. Went into the dealer to get a trade in value for the Hyundai Santa Fe and also to get the credit application done.
So as always they try to sell you extended warranty and that coverage.
After the meeting we went to lunch and talked about everything. We both like vehicles under warranty for the piece of mind. If we chose to get the warranty they will pay for the first 3 years maintenance, which they value at around $800. It would also extend roadside assistance for an extra 4 years (we'd be looking at a 7 year warranty), CAA is about $100 per year, so that is a value of $400 in my book. So for 7 years and 120,000 kms it's $3,000 taxes in. We plan on keeping the vehicle for a minimum of 8 years and will be servicing it at the dealer.
Now about the rust warranty, how much would you pay for 10 years of coverage? We usually Krown our vehicles, which costs around $140 per year, per car. They are offering this coverage for $799 plus tax.
Also they offered us $1,000 more for our trade in than we had anticipated, so to us that's extra money we weren't expecting.
Just wondering what people's thoughts are on these things and the price. I know with it being a Toyota product it should be reliable over the long term but it certainly comes with more electronics and sensors than they used to and those things aren't cheap to repair.
