2020 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid
« on: March 09, 2020, 12:42:22 pm »
So this past weekend we looked at a few CUV's to replace my wife's Hyundai Santa Fe.  She seems to be fixated on the Rav4 Hybrid, even though technically we didn't get a chance to drive it (as all Rav4 hybrids are ordered in and sold prior to arriving).

I've been reading a lot about these vehicles and from what forum members have stated.  It sounds like there is very little in deals on these vehicles.

So my question to you the people is what do you think of this deal?  Rav4 Hybrid LE (base model), we pay full MSRP, all levies and taxes, don't pay for any of the admin fee's, no etching fee, not paying for the hood deflector (which they put on literally all their new vehicles), and we get them to throw a set of decent winter tires and rims for free.  I tend to think that's about as good as we can expect.

If you want to buy one, and that's the offer, I would take it.  That's a decent discount assuming you planned to buy a wheel/tire package.

Is that what the dealer offered or what you will propose?

If it's the latter my guess is the dealer will not throw in the tires and rims because of the demand.

They throw in winter wheels and tires? That would be huge.

We test drove one last summer, the deal offered was 1000.00 off list, 500.00 admin fee, no other goodies. So about 500.00 off net. Did not shop around more at the time. Delivery time was estimated at 3 months back then

I thought that was a decent enough deal considering. As well as the better mileage the hybrid drives considerably better than the regular Rav IMO, instant torque and quieter, plus it comes with a few useful extras.

We also tried a used 2016 RX350 though that same day and that is likely where we'll go instead as the wife liked the low hood and the greater luxury

Dont know where ur located but the dealer here in KW did not even throw in floor mats when my coworker ordered. You will be lucky if you get what you are looking for

The LE hybrid has manually adjustable front seats. They are comfy for a medium-size human overall but maybe hard to get used to coming from a Limited Santa Fe.

Apart from that I was impressed with how "normal" it drove in terms of linear acceleration and braking. IMO hands down the hybrid trims of Rav are the ones to go for.

I think you are in dreamsville.  Is this a straight out purchase or trade in?  If it's a trade you can get that deal as they will just low ball the trade as it's only a grand you're talking about.

Okay, so I should clarify, I proposed this deal and they accepted.  From what I take it they usually don't take any money off their Hybrids.  Plus we're avoiding all those nasty admin fees, window etching, etc.  We'll be trading in both our vehicles.  I have a realistic expectation on how much each is worth (or at least I think I do), and based on that we'll agree on the deal.

With how much we have saved for a down payment, and how much I expect our vehicles to be valued at, I expect we'll have it completely paid for and avoid the high interest rates that the Rav4 Hybrid typically has.

What colour?
There aren't that many choices really, a red, gray, black, silver and white.  Personally I'd choose the gray because it's a bit easier to keep clean.  But of course I have to keep my wife happy and she wants white.  Our current vehicles are both white and both a pain in the ass to get and keep clean.

If your looking for a colour that cleans itself in the rain that would be the silver. :D

Regardless of the colour it's an excellent choice.  Congrats

Speaking of Toyota SUV Hybrids...when is the Highlander coming to dealers? And will it too not have any room to negotiate?
I love it when a plan comes together.

not paying for the hood deflector (which they put on literally all their new vehicles)

Tell them they can keep their stupid hood deflector especially since it won't be on the car when they get it so don't wast your time putting it on.

Congrats and that sounds like a solid deal especially for a car in high demand.

Yeah I told them we don't want it installed.  If they put it on, that's fine, but we won't be paying for it.

That's good to hear.  We likely won't get a chance to test drive a Rav4 Hybrid until the one we order in comes in, months from now.  One of my complaints with the regular Rav4 is it was a bit loud (engine noise) but I expect the hybrid to be a bit quieter.

Did you ever get the Golf R fixed?
I'm assuming you mean the turbo.  Yes it was replaced under warranty.  It's not that the turbo blew up or anything, it just wasn't "functioning optimally" and was causing a PMC code, which in turn put me in limp mode until I stopped and restarted my vehicle.  Annoying yes, but did not strand me.

We'll be getting two new vehicles in July, that's when my Golf R is paid for, and also when we'll likely buy this Rav4 (barring them low balling our trade ins).

That's a whole other thread that I'll likely start in the next couple of months as I start to look at options and scenarios.  I might go cheap with the intention of getting a RWD sports car in a few years, or I might go something more fun/performance and get that RWD vehicle later.
