Good news, stopped into the dealer and talked to the GM.  He told us the ETA for the Rav4 we ordered is saying last week of July or first week of August.  The wife is happy that it isn't into fall and so we will wait for the Rav4 we originally ordered.

Speaking to the sales people it seems like all their vehicles are getting low right now.  Will be completely out of their pickups this week with no timeline on when they'll get more.

Wow, last time I drove by they had a HUGE row of Tacomas. I forget when that was though.

Okay, so my wife's Rav4 hybrid should be here this week.  Went into the dealer to get a trade in value for the Hyundai Santa Fe and also to get the credit application done.

So as always they try to sell you extended warranty and that coverage.

After the meeting we went to lunch and talked about everything.  We both like vehicles under warranty for the piece of mind.  If we chose to get the warranty they will pay for the first 3 years maintenance, which they value at around $800.  It would also extend roadside assistance for an extra 4 years (we'd be looking at a 7 year warranty), CAA is about $100 per year, so that is a value of $400 in my book.  So for 7 years and 120,000 kms it's $3,000 taxes in.  We plan on keeping the vehicle for a minimum of 8 years and will be servicing it at the dealer.

Now about the rust warranty, how much would you pay for 10 years of coverage?  We usually Krown our vehicles, which costs around $140 per year, per car.  They are offering this coverage for $799 plus tax.

Also they offered us $1,000 more for our trade in than we had anticipated, so to us that's extra money we weren't expecting.

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on these things and the price.  I know with it being a Toyota product it should be reliable over the long term but it certainly comes with more electronics and sensors than they used to and those things aren't cheap to repair.

It's the first 3 oil changes, brake flush at 3 years, winter tires change over, and some bs inspections.  Personally I value it at $500.

Is this a 2020 vehicle? If so, battery warranty is 10 years, 240k.

Powertrain is 5 year, 100k.

Hybrid components is 8 year 160k

Bumper to bumper is 3 year 60k

It's the comprehensive warranty that is the big draw.  Not worried about the powertrain or the hybrid components, just all the electronics.

What are people's thoughts on the rust warranty?

Rust warranty only covers perforations, i.e. if it rusts a hole into the passenger compartment so it won't pass safety.  This shouldn't happen in 10 years.  Plus, Toyota has really upped their rust prevention game.  Notice most older Toyota's on the road have minimal rust?

Okay so pass on the warranty and rust protection.  That's what I was thinking but my wife is more for these things.

It's great news the dealer didn't try to low ball you on the trade-in. Take that money and spend it on winter rims or tires instead of extra warranties.  :)

What are Cons?  ???  In that case winter mats, a towing hitch and so on...

I have the worst autocorrect "tires and rims".

In terms of KMs (not sure how much per year you drive) the extra warranty would only cover an additional 60k km.

Not sure if there's value in that for you

Funny, were just in the same boat this afternoon.

Our used Lexus (we got it, yay!) is at 3 years and 42,000 km with the bumper to bumper warranty, so one year left

We ended up getting additional bumper to bumper coverage up to 2027/160,000 under a Jaguar Land Rover plan

The quote was $3900 with jobber parts, we negotiated to $3500 with OEM parts.

$250 deductible, and $2000 back at end of term if no claims (excepting roadside assistance, which comes with it too)

I could have done without it, but my wife felt it was good for her piece of mind to have the electronics and sensors etc covered

That being said, being as we are paying $220/yr for AMA now, that's $1540 in savings right there

We wouldn't drive 120,000 kms in 7 years, but for a lot of these things it's not the kms it's the time.  It might only be 60k kms but it's the extra 4 years that is the draw.  Do any of us really know the reliability of these new electronics.

That's really not a bad deal on a luxury vehicle, even if it's the most reliable luxury vehicle hicks you can buy.

My wife is really pushing for the warranty as she likes the piece of mind and maybe I'll break down and get it.  In the end it's all about happy wife, happy life and it's really only a couple grand.  Plus to be honest I too like the idea of her vehicle being under warranty for most of our ownership.
