So I finally got some riding pants, so depending on the weather, I might be taking her on the inaugural ride this weekend if the weather cooperates

Black

Jacket too?

Just wondering about nightitme visibility.  If you're all black on a black bike, you might consider sewing on a couple additional patches of 3M reflective tape.  Drivers in the day time don't pay attention...at night?  Crap shoot.  I know some peeps who keep a reflective vest handy just for night riding.

I've also used these..as have a few others on the forum.  https://www.amazon.ca/customTAYLOR33-Intensity-Reflective-Copyrighted-SportsBikes/dp/B00G61E1FW/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=motorcycle+reflective+whee%3Bl&qid=1586467557&sr=8-6

Its got a bunch of reflective stuff on it, but I will definitely be putting those rim reflectors on. Night time riding isn't really on the books for while yet.

I've never had a black jacket FWIW.

And I've had one pair of black pants (my current ones). But they were available in a few different colors.

Most decent companies have a pretty good selection of colors these days IMO.  Maybe because in some of the hot states (FLA, CA, etc) you'd bake if you wore black and those are huge motorcycle markets.

Nothing wrong with the color....unless night riding is a usual thing then I'd want a bit more contrast or reflectivity.

You’re out in Beaumont, I really wouldn’t do much night riding at all with all the wildlife. I refused to ride on the Henday after dark even. I can deal with homicidal drivers but wildlife is 100% predictable.

What was the circumstance? Low speed/stop tip over sideways?

And don't fret...dual sports can handle this stuff daily! LOL This is why they are great learner bikes.

Drove off the curb, lost balance, wobble and down. I'd chalk it up to running out of talent. Bikes none the worse for wear

Curbs are easier in the beginning if you hit them dead on straight.

No biggie...you'll get the hang of it. All part of the learning process.

Squeeze the tank a bit with your knees...Will keep the bike from "flopping" a bit better making it easier to keep balance when doing stuff like this.

Hardest keeping balance at low speeds.  Falls don't hurt as much though.
Along with what Rrocket said, practice transitioning from the seat to standing on the footpegs, along with shifting weight fore and aft, especially over uneven ground as the bike moves under you.

Good advice IMO.

Squeezing won't be a full time practice, obviously. Only when doing things that could deflect the bike (curbs in this case). In these cases, squeezing will connect you to the bike and allow you to control the bike...and not the other way round. When not squeezing the bike and you get deflection, it's possible for the bike to list to the left (for example) and your body to be out of balance and lean to the right. Now you're trying to re balance 2 different parts. The hope with squeezing is to keep everything 1 piece. It's a bit tough (for me) to explain in words. But once you try it, you'll likely go "aha!" and understand what we mean.

When on the pegs, an easy technique to help with squeezing is pigeon toe your feet slightly on the pegs. This naturally turns the knees into the tank.

Got to break a few eggs to make an omelette. Soon you will be using curbs to loft the front wheel.  ;)
