Is this just now a random used bike thread? Stay on topic people!  :rofl2:

What you really need Fob is a 30 year old two stroke turbo cruiser, as that's what a friend of a friend had once!
Is it fuel injected or carbs though?
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

blech...that thing was always awkward looking...and despite being for sale for several years, i've never seen one on the road...speaking of which, i don't think i've ever seen a Hond Fury either.

Honda NM4 was way cooler. Actually saw one once.

And one of those Valkrie Runes in a brilliant ruby color.

I spent a couple of hours looking at bikes on the weekend (kijiji)...and then went to MPI's website to calculate rates.  Sure, if I never want to take it to work, some bikes aren't that bad.  But the second you pick All Purpose coverage, or anything with "sport" in its pretensions or 1000 CC or more, you're looking at $1200+ annually, almost $3g if it's new-ish...all due within the 5 month riding season mind you so no getting around paying the full amount if you ride from May to Sept...which on a $3000 bike seems like madness.  I'm out!  By the time I can afford to pay for every pile o shi# that comes along and a bike...I'll be too old to ride.

Should've moved to AB 23 yrs ago when I had a chance.  :P

It could be a 2nd career choice for you! :D Maybe the first in Manitoba?!

That is nuts. Here in AB I am paying $500 for full coverage on a  (510cc)  including depreciation insurance replacement thingy for three years. I have not owned anything over 1000cc in a long time but I know the owner of the 1600cc Suzuki was paying $525. I thought both those rates were expensive.

I found in Alberta, the difference between different classes is not substantial. My R3 is $345 while someone with an R1 might see $600-700. In BC, it would be $670 for the R3 vs. $1610 for the R1 in Kelowna. It's a trade off for a much longer riding season. Motorcycle owners in BC could insure their bike for 3 or 6 months for 25% or 50% the cost of the liability portion plus $19 short term insurance surcharge respectively if we want to compare apples to apples. I get my collision and comprehensive through a private insurance company for $225-275 and they only allow full year coverage, which is fine because motorcycles need to be protected from theft year round anyway.

Mind you, I'm the crazy one who has ridden every single month since August 2018.

Don't buy a f*cking scooter! You won't look like a 25yr old Italian no matter what they tell you on this forum.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

::)

that's not what scooters are for...they are affordable to buy, affordable to run (fuel, maintenance, etc), affordable to insure and great to learn how to ride on (easy to ride)...many people in here have experience with scooters...i know you're not interested in one, and that's fine, but sometimes people exclude options for the wrong reasons.

I've gone to a few dealers in the last few weeks. Sat on a KLR and a CB500X. I think the KLR will definitely be right up my alley. All my rider buddies are trying to talk me out of the Versys 300 as in their words, "a man of your build will not enjoy a bike with that small of an engine". Basically, my fat a$$ will cause me to hold up traffic. So now I guess I am going to start looking for a KLR more seriously.

smaller bikes are great to learn on...they are cheaper to buy, cheaper to run (gas, insurance, etc) and weigh less...getting used ones is also a pretty good deal as many "first time riders" buy the smaller bikes to get used to them, then sell them to get something bigger...your buddies are likely correct in some aspect, as you would unlikely keep something like that long term...if you do get something a bit bigger, you are more likely to keep it longer (if that's what you'd prefer)...there are lots of smaller (starter sized) bikes for sale on the used market, many of which only get used for one riding season...because of this, it's likely not ideal to buy a new Versys 300 as you'll likely not keep it long (assuming you enjoy riding), so you'd likely find yourself selling it next year to get something bigger...if you are a bigger guy, you can likely manage a slightly larger bike as well (even if it's your first bike), providing you keep things reasonable (which the KLR certainly is).
