Because Giovanni from Rome is 34, lives with his parents and has nowhere to park is not a good argument for anyone over the age of 16 to own a scooter lol
nope...you don't get it because you've never owned one...scooters are everywhere in Euroland (and Asia) because there is no stigma associated with them...they are affordable to purchase, great on fuel and are a practical means of transportation...especially in many of those areas where fuel prices are higher and/or incomes are lower.

they aren't popular here because there too many knuckle dragging neanderthals in North America who think scooters are gay...they need to pound their chest and buy a Harley Fat Boy or an F250 Super Duty Diesel to show how manly they are.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Deer terrify me. They are so dumb and unpredictable. I slow the heck down if I see any close by.

Full helmet for me. Those little partial ones that the cruiser guys were are barely more than a pedal bike one for protection. Some of the bigger bugs can also hurt at bit when hit at speed. I could not imagine getting one in the face.

I've hit june bugs, they make a very loud smack on the windshield, wouldn't want to take one of them in the mouth thanks.
That's not the problem with them.

They're as slippery as oil when large amounts of them are on the roadway squished...

Bumblebees are the worst for hitting!
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I'm kinda weird...

I'm just as content riding the hardest core bikes (supermoto) as I am the red headed step child (scooter). It's funny...but those 2 polar opposites on the spectrum are my current 2 favorite modes on 2 wheels. (I'll never miss a chance to jump in diet bikes though! )

I guess I'm happy just riding.....

i've had several bikes over the years...Honda CH250, NS400R, VT750, VFR1000, Yamaha FZ750, Suzuki VZ800...i did the most riding and enjoyed the CH250 (scooter) the most...cheap to buy, cheap to run, cheap to insure, included storage, and comfortable...most of the smaller ones are more at home in an urban environment, but if you get something in the 200cc or higher range, they can usually hold their own on the highway (the bigger engine, the faster and more stable at speed they are).

i guess i'm like you as i like them too.

Based on the age of everybody riding that particular type of bike, those balls need to be dragging on the ground...

I think the winner is the Vstrom 650. Now I have to wait for all this white and cold garbage to f$%k off and die so I can go do my course and get my licence.

650 will serve you well.  Easy to handle, but enough beans to have some fun, so you won't be bored your first summer out.  Can road trip on it, easily.

If you do decide to move onto something else, the Vstrom is a well known bike you'll be able to sell.

If you have a $10 head, buy a $10 helmet.

Heh. Now's the fun time to shop. Wander around Argyle or Turple and see what they have

As someone noted, if buying new there can be a lot of extra fees added on. When I was in the south Blackfoot in Calgary had a ridiculous amount of added fees, while the Suzuki store in Lethbridge did not have much at all (and I negotiated out of them anyhow, as the bike was a year old)

Speaking of which, new old stock can be a big saving

Would still say keep the SV650 in mind. Same engine as the Vstrom, but usually a grand or two cheaper. Often produced in two versions, a 'racier' clip on handlbar style, and more of 'standard' type with regular bars

I bought my Yamaha from Alberta Cycle who also sells Suzuki, Moto Guzzi, and Aprillia. They treated me well. Their gear and helmets including Shoei and Arai is always on sale.

Now is the time to buy for the best price and the window is closing fast. Spring is the worst. Just get delivery included. You do run the risk of hating bike riding I guess.

I'd go used for a first bike to be honest. The VStrom may not be for Fobroader and it'll be ok because the depreciation will be minimal.
