Then thats not what I'm looking for. I would like to at least cruise to Calgary, ~300km, and to the mountains, ~400kms, without looking like I got ran over by a train afterwards.
Lighten up Francis.....

I think the dual sport bikes are amazing learning bikes.  They're narrow so you feel in control, are light and easy to handle, and are hella fun.  I'd still love a big thumper Honda XL.

In that case, a KLR could do that, but a Vstrom could do it better.    A DRZ is best left for shorter jaunts or off-road

Yea, a V-Strom would be better (considering you like the SV).

You could buy this and I'd be happy to deliver it!!    :rofl2:

V Strom then, you need some fairing. My Fe501 is absolutely miserable on the highway without one.

Yeah, those bikes are porky, but I still like them.  Not really a great beginner bike, but not terrible either.  I just have a real soft spot for those big boxers.

Yes and no.  The simple bikes like those boxer twins are tanks.

My bro had tons of issues with a couple of his boxer twins....I wouldn't call them major...just the usual FGC BS....

And the dealer costs for their motorcycle stuff/repairs seems to be more than their car stuff...somehow.

I'd get a VStrom for reliability, both the 650 and 1000 variants. There's also the Kawasaki Versys which is a little ugly. Honda NC700X is a little interesting, it's dubbed as having half a (Honda) Fit engine.

I'd consider a sport tourer as well, Honda ST1300, Yamaha FJR1300, Kawasaki Concours. All three will gobble up miles in comfort yet are still fun to ride.

I like those sport tourers...but they weigh a facking ton.  Was one of the reason I got my scoot...I wanted the full luxury items...but not the weight.  Still wish mine had cruise.

I'm also quite fond of the VFR800 VTEC as a sport touring rig.  I really like them....and they can be had rather cheaply used.  And they seem to run forever.  Have seen many used ones with super high KMs on them.

Test drove a few VFR-800's over the years & I agree they run beautiful & ride very nice!! The linked braking system was stupid cool the first time I grabbed the front brake & felt the rear of the bike squat down as the inner rear piston grabbed.
