I already bought a helmet, gloves and boots. What do you guys think of/know of Klim gear?? I was thinking of them for jacket and pants.

Klim gear is top-line, you won't go wrong.
I have a pair of Klim gloves, a friend has the whole shebang and loves it.

I also have a cheap and light Fox Legion outfit for warmer days and it's great for the money.

Thats the main reason for not wanting something with some small CCs, the Henday.

Yah, 300cc isn’t even enough to get a speeding ticket on the Henday. Oh wait.

Anyway, you have your opinion and I have mine. I do have to say though that there are lots of used 250s and 300s available for a song that you can learn on then sell for the same price.

I'd love to try one of those little sport bikes. On the street, I think it would be more fun to wring the everloving snot out of a tiny bike than to barely get the throttle cracked on a big one.

Overpriced...but nice gear!

Make sure the armor (if possible) is ECE level 2.

Same idea as "its more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow".

Klim is good stuff, I have a few bits and pieces, well made and good protection.  Of all the gear I have bought it's my favourite, it is expensive, but it also just works.

Buy once.

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

I'm a Rev'It clothing slappy.

Also not cheap, but otherwise fantastic.

You can find pretty good gear for every budget IMO.

I have a few of those too, but I prefer the design of Klim.

As with all things, it depends.

Klim had nothing nearly as good as the Tornado.

Both companies make top shelf stuff and you won't go wrong with either.

Change my mind.....what's Klim have that flows more than the Tornado? They had nothing. Induction jacket was good though!

Not sure if they do today though..but I'd be interested if they did.

Like I said...I'm open to it and shopped the Klim Induction when I got the Tornado.  Having done lots of ADV stuff, Klim and Rev'It are the benchmarks IMO.

I think the new Tornado 3 is even better this time around....

Klim have an upgrade this year or a new one in this class?

Maybe I can convince you??   ;D

Klim Induction                                                      Tornado2

840D On shoulders and elbows                           1000D
Karbonite Mesh, small holes                               75D mesh, large holes, flows more air. (no idea which one is more abrasion resistant since Klim doesn't list "D")
No liner                                                                 Removable insulated/waterproof liner
CE1 in elbows, shoulders, back                   CE2 in shoulders, elbows, no back protector
Fleece Collar                                                          Fleece Collar with button closure and stay, neoprene-type collar edge
 No waist cinch                                                      Waist cinch

$349                                                                     $349

Both are high quality construction.

I thought the Tornado was more bang for the buck.  I think I like the emergency pocket on the sleeve of the Klim better.  It's on the inside of the Rev'It.

Those were the main points (for me).

YMMV.

Fob, didn't you say your inseam was like 31" or something?  Even if you lower a KLR you're still going to have dangling tippy toes on a very weighty, top-heavy bike.

The KLR 650 is as old as dirt and indestructible and if you're planning to ride from Edmonton to Ecuador, that's a great choice, but they're big, heavy and have an engine as lively as a tractor.  It's low-revving and not very powerful at all, and if you're just trying to get used to the squirrelliness of riding off-road, it's a BIG handful to manage and pick-up everytime you drop it.

Finding a CRF250L, Kawi KLX250, or by some miracle, an affordable Yamaha WR250R will offer enough punch to have fun around town, on the trails and even get you up to highway speeds.  I've ridden a CRF on a 3 hr ride on the highway into cottage country and it was fine.  Your friends who say you need a KLR650 perhaps don't know that it only has, what, maybe 10 hp more than the much newer and lighter CRF, KLR or WR 250 options.

The default go-to bike I recommend for folks just starting out is the Kawi Z400.  While it isn't suitable for any sort of off-road / trail riding at all, it is an excellent, reliable, easy-to-handle, good-value bike that is insanely fun even for a "learner" bike.

All those are too small for highway runs. He wanted some fairing protection etc. Otherwise he should sell his soul and go buy a Husky FE350 or 501. IMO.

I sat on a few KLRs and I am ok on them. I think a new seat and some lowering links will fix its little red wagon.

I think I've found the jacket and moto jeans I want, the Klim Badlands for a jacket and the K Fifty 1 jeans. These should keep my a$$ from turning into hamburger hopefully!!
