Have you tried a 996 Turbo? I like them, but man, I was disappointed when I drove a sorted one last year.
How so?

Local car, thoughts?

https://www.autotrader.ca/a/porsche/911/moncton/new%20brunswick/19_12731546_/?showcpo=ShowCpo&ncse=no&orup=1_3_3&pc=E3C%200B7&sprx=-2

I like that it's a color and that the interior isn't black, not to mention it's a manual.  Would I be nuts to buy this and drive as my daily driver year round, at least for this and next winter?

That one has been on the market for a while. I say go for it. It certainly isn't going to lose much value if you take care of it.

I can't recall, but I definitely remember seeing it a year or so ago.

Never realized that the interior of an early 00's Porsche resembles a mid 90's jelly bean Ford Taurus.

Well it was designed in the 90's, so that could explain it a bit.

That's true, very distinctive era. It seems like an interesting era to find "reasonable" value? Mot old enough to be classic and horribly outdated tech when compared to new. Right up my alley.

Porsche was not in the best financial shape when the 996 was being developed. There was likely cost cutting to the interior design and materials.

That may be true, but was still better than the outgoing car IMO.

I was going to say that, I didn't think the previous generation 911 had some kind of amazing interior either.  I think at that time Porsche was more performance than luxury, after this generation they have gotten more on the luxury side.

Are you guys really saying that in any way other than objective speed/performance, that the 996 is more desirable than the 993?!

I couldn't really say one way or the other as I haven't driven either.  If only based on performance stats it'd likely be the 996, purely based on exterior styling I'd go 993.

Yes, it's also more comfortable, has more interior space and cargo space, and, as the others were saying, its interior materials, while not great by modern standards, were certainly no worse (and possibly better) than the 993 and 964's.

Of course the 996 is a better car in terms of performance, comfort, safety etc. Having said that, 993 is definitely more desirable for being the last air-cooled 911, classic design etc.

I think the 996 is coming back into fashion though, especially the earlier more analog models that didn't have a lot of electronic nannies. Also, you can buy one for a lot less than a 964 or 993 and not have to worry about driving it. 964 and 993 prices are insane. The 964 was once the orphan child of the air-cooled 911 lineup. Times have sure changed.

If comfort, interior/cargo space, and material quality is what you want out of your 20+ year old car, go buy an Infiniti G35 and have better performance than a non-turbo 993/996/964...

But that's not what we're about here at CX5sAndCrosstreks.ca, is it?

Horses for courses and all that.

The 993 is for sure the enthusiasts choice.  But I'm sure I'd rather daily a 996, and would be a lot less worried about the wear and tear.
