So I have a line on a good friend's '97 993 Targa. Widebody car, smoke silver on light grey interior. He's the original owner, about 84,000km, not a huge fan of the colour but it's a full history car and been serviced at my place for a couple decades.

I could have this car significantly below market value; we're talking 30-40%. There's a part of me that's thinking of unloading the 964 while the values are still insane, pocketing $100k or so, and putting that towards an investment pile that I'm calling "The Diablo Fund".

I subjectively prefer the 964 (especially the spec of mine, and the story behind this particular car) to the 993, but this would still allow me to own an air-cooled, timeless car and make some $$.

Thinking about it.

993 Targas were all narrow body from the factory. Only coupes came in widebody from the factory (C2S or C4S). In any event, it sounds like a nicely sorted car. I do prefer the old fashioned Targas over the glass roof styles from the 993 through 997 generations. It seems like the market for both 964s and 993s are still very strong, and this could be a good time to try something different.

Huh; that's interesting about the narrow body. I can't say I've seen the car in a year; I just happened to ask the guy to confirm that it's a wide body or a narrow, and he said wide. Guy could definitely be wrong, and my quick research online confirms what you're saying. I think I'm out; the only way I'd want a 993 is if it were a wide body.

If it's 30-40% below market, buy it and flip it! Or hook me up :)
I love it when a plan comes together.

I got notification this morning that the Macan is on a ship headed to the port in Halifax.  So far the first six stages have been completed right on the earliest side of the estimates.

I wish, I’ve read about that experience and it sounds amazing!  If I’m ever in the situation of buying new again, I’d definitely try to schedule that in.

I've done BMW's M European Delivery tour and it's spectacular. My wife and I have a goal to do either BMW or Porsche's someday. There are rumblings that the G99 M5 Touring will be sold in North America so if that happens, we're going to order one to do the trip.

Didn't BMW end Euro delivery during COVID and never bring it back?

I honestly didn't know about this. I know Volvo did, which was upsetting when we couldn't do it for Mrs. Hire's V90 Cross country.

Not really on topic, but I've been driving my very good friend's 981 Boxster S (stick), with Cayman GT4 wheels, a proper track suspension setup and Akrapovic exhaust. This thing is WONDERFUL. Honestly one of the most perfect cars you can buy sub-$50k. I might be getting old because while it's a sensational daily in every sense of the word, it's actually quite a b*tch to get in and out of.

The reason I sold my Boxster. That sucker was low!

And my janky back wasn't having it.

Broke my heart as it was absolutely wonderful to drive.

That may explain why it's showing on the map as still being in Halifax!

Thanks, I hadn’t heard that!  I’ve been checking the app regularly hoping it was just not displaying  ;D

I’m pretty excited about it even if it is an SUV

I'm reasonably certain you have no idea what you're talking about re: bad backs.
