I'll leave this one here for you guys - seller's a great guy  ;)

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1996-porsche-911-turbo-120/

RNM at $163k. Seems like a good price for a 993 Turbo these days. I wonder how far off of the reserve it was.

As much as I love Porsche...that's not a $160k car to me.

Could better spend that (imaginary) money elsewhere.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

It's been a while since one sold for less on BaT.

Here's another ROW 993 Turbo that Porsche Centre London has, with a rather unique interior: https://finder.porsche.com/ca/en-CA/details/porsche-911-turbo-preowned-OZQGM7?order=newest

Oh I know they sell for big money.

I'd just spend it on a different Porsche.

Agreed. I've driven a very good client's Arena Red '96 Turbo extensively. Original owner, 90,000km, absolutely perfect condition. Great car, but heck, air cooled Porsches are a $50-80,000 driving experience AT BEST. They're timeless icons but the thought of spending $200-300k on one of these astounds me.

Don't get me wrong, I think my 964 is one of the best driving, most engaging cars I have ever had the pleasure of driving, but in the condition mine is in it's worth $150k CAD. A very good friend had a similar '91 non-turbocharged car with double the mileage, some mods and no history, walked into Pfaff Reserve and they gave him $147.5k, and flipped it for $179,995 in a week. There is ZERO chance I would ever fathom paying that kind of money for one of these.

You just have to look at the sales history on BaT's model page to guess the reserve. The paint thickness on the hood and front fenders, along with a lack of documentation as to why it is this thick, killed it I think. The owner claims it has never been hit / painted, but obviously it's not the case. I just discovered that you can get that info for 30 euros on a French gvt website, so either he had no idea or did not research the car enough before buying it. The correct thing to do would be to get the history report then relaunch the auction at No Reserve - but it's not my money. A car like this, in a rare config, will make it to a high sale number on BaT even if it has had work provided the seller is upfront with it.

Are Vantage007 and Vantage11 the same person?

In any case, this was a steal:

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1979-porsche-930-turbo-88/

Granted, modded car and a bit rough. I had a minty '79 930 ready to go on BaT before the 993 TT but owner and BaT were $30k apart on the reserve. A low-miles US car in a very odd, COA-documented factory-original combination of Talbot Yellow over red leather.

HA! Nope, not me. Honestly I love the way those SCs and 930 Turbos look, but after owning my '79 SC Targa I really hate how "old car" they drive. I hugely prefer the more modern ergonomics and usability of my 964, which still retains the old car smell/feel you want from an air cooled P-car.

I agree. We have two air cooled 911s in the family, a 3.2 Carrera and 993. Driving the 993 is like driving a car that is decades newer.

Having said that, for a car that is not a daily driver, the 3.2 Carrera has lots of character, even with all of its quirks and inconveniences.

Maybe because it is? LOL [emoji38]

3.2 Carrera came in 1984.

993 in 1994.

But I hear ya..3.2 was basically a 70s car.

I've driven 993s extensively and I don't find there to be an appreciable difference "up" from the 964. The interior's basically the same, and the cars drive VERY similar.

The 993 Turbo, aka "baby 959", was the major upgrade from the 964 with its awd and twin turbochargers.

I've driven a couple of them. Other than being significantly faster, I didn't love it.

This is pretty close to the perfect spec for a 997 C2S. Just need to refinish those lobster claws to their original silver. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2006-porsche-911-carrera-s-coupe-26/

^^ Yes, that 997 is sweet, and now you can get an updated Porsche PCM with apple carplay to bring tech into this decade. Nice car.
I love it when a plan comes together.
