1.9 M USD and climbing... The affordable 959 days are over

Twenty years ago these were what, $400k or so?

I know forever...And it might still be that way..they even though you could own a 959 there was no way to legally register or drive it in the US.

I know some collector (forget his name) with deep pockets, political connections, etc eventually got his registered/legal ..I think.

I even think there was a YouTube "documentary" about it
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

I read that Bill Gates had one but not sure if that is who you meant.

Yep, that's who it was.  I remember the story.  Funny because I never really picture old Bill as a sports car kind of guy.

No, there's another guy.

He literally had the law changed.

I'll see if I can find the story.

The 959 looks to me like a 911 that was beat on hard with the ugly stick.  Looks a little too swollen to me.  ymmv

Expensive, but a really cool spec: 992 S, manual, guards red, full brown leather interior...

https://www.autotrader.ca/a/porsche/911/oakville/ontario/5_53990583_20130514154504577/?showcpo=ShowCpo&ncse=no&ursrc=hl&orup=1_100_284&sprx=-2
That does look great!

Agreed!  Just about ideal spec imo.  Love the dark wood interior trim as well and had no idea that was an option.

F*ck me that's a lot of money for a C2...  :o

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

So out of curiosity I built one as close as possible to the one in the ad (Porsche code PN831GG0)

2021 (ad) with 2,228 km: $184,900
2022 (new spec): $165,650

So $19,250 difference. For $20,000 you drive off with the car this weekend vs. waiting 1-2 years, if you're lucky.

If you're gonna get that spendy, I'd much rather have:

https://www.autotrader.ca/a/lamborghini/gallardo/windsor/ontario/5_53791355_20150817134152041

or

https://www.autotrader.ca/a/mercedes-benz/amg%20gt/toronto/ontario/5_53388876_on20080409114506664

or even

https://www.autotrader.ca/a/ferrari/f355/woodbridge/ontario/5_52192444_on20080130124436742 (albeit wrong 'box)

I don't know. With the exception of maybe the Benz, all are 3rd or 4th cars in the fleet. The Porsche could be a primary driver, dare I even say all year daily.

Yeah, the $10k service every 4yrs on the Lambo or Ferrari don't make them all that viable compared to the Porsche. The AMG would be cheaper to live with than the other two, but the Porsche would be even less.

Are you saying your Porsche will be a daily driver? I bet not!  :rofl2:

Absolutely agree that a lambo would be a 3rd car (including wife's), for sure. But it would make every journey way more special than the Porsche.

A $2K-$3K annual budget for maintenance on a supercar is the norm, I'm fine with that.

I'd take a manual 355 GTS or GTB over the Porsche, but not the others.

I do find the combination of Guards Red over brown leather and wood trim a bit odd though. If going with a red exterior, make my interior black with carbon trim.

The brown with wood looks great with the Aventurine green exterior though.
