Lol, is there anything you AREN'T a know it all about? ![Wink ;)](https://www.autos.ca/forum/Smileys/CarTalk/wink.gif)
We put aftermarket short shifters / linkages on 915 and G50 transmission cars all the time at work. I know the advantages and disadvantages. I just want to keep my car OEM, that's all.
Well considering I've put new shifters in 2 out of the 3 Porsche I've owned....I'd say "Ya" I'm a "know it all" about the POS stock Porsche shifters/components.
![:rofl2:](https://www.autos.ca/forum/Smileys/CarTalk/rofl.gif)
And the only reason I haven't done a 3rd is I haven't owned it long enough yet!!
I understand you want OEM..but these are parts you don't see AND are superior to the stockers.
So if you can improve an "old" classic car without wrecking the aesthetics or functionality in any way (which is the case here) why wouldn't you do it? Even if you never touched the shifter itself, doing away with the rubber in the linkages with aftermarket rods would be far better for shifting and feel. But you wouldn't because the rod isn't OEM??
Or are you trying to be one of the terrible, obnoxious Porsche owners that say "Well if the engineers did it this way from the factory, this must be the BEST way!" If so, you've fully graduated from Rookie Porsche Owner to full on Douche Porsche Owner!! Congrats!!
As you can see below, the nearly $1K in shifter improvements on my 1986 is still 100% stock looking. Stock boot, stock knob (though I did go with a really nice hand made wood knob later on).
