That’s really really nice. I wouldn’t mind an RS short shifter, actually…

There are much better choices out there.....

Would be aftermarket, however...

Uh yea...and superior in every way to OEM.  Also, parts you don't see.  Also, works with stock knob and boot like the OEM.  So I don't see any reason NOT going with aftermarket.

I know you've never played around with the shifter or linkages on a Porsche.

Trust me on this one....let me save you from yourself.  :rofl2:  There are aftermarket shifters/linkages that are far better than the OEM RS kit.

It's even worse on the newer cars (like my Boxster).  You wouldn't believe the amount of plastic in the shifter!!

Lol, is there anything you AREN'T a know it all about?  ;)

We put aftermarket short shifters / linkages on 915 and G50 transmission cars all the time at work. I know the advantages and disadvantages. I just want to keep my car OEM, that's all.

Well considering I've put new shifters in 2 out of the 3 Porsche I've owned....I'd say "Ya" I'm a "know it all" about the POS stock Porsche shifters/components.  :rofl2:  And the only reason I haven't done a 3rd is I haven't owned it long enough yet!!    :rofl2:

I understand you want OEM..but these are parts you don't see AND are superior to the stockers.

So if you can improve an "old" classic car without wrecking the aesthetics or functionality in any way (which is the case here) why wouldn't you do it?  Even if you never touched the shifter itself, doing away with the rubber in the linkages with aftermarket rods would be far better for shifting and feel.  But you wouldn't because the rod isn't OEM??

Or are you trying to be one of the terrible, obnoxious Porsche owners that say "Well if the engineers did it this way from the factory, this must be the BEST way!"  If so, you've fully graduated from Rookie Porsche Owner to full on Douche Porsche Owner!!  Congrats!!    :rofl2:

As you can see below, the nearly $1K in shifter improvements on my 1986 is still 100% stock looking. Stock boot, stock knob (though I did go with a really nice hand made wood knob later on).

I'm not actually doing any of it, haha. I'm sure there are parts in the aftermarket that do the job better.

Yea.  I find it odd that Porsche cheaps out in some weird areas where you would notice the cheapness.  Like the shifter and related components.  Cheap plastic inserts (instead of Delrin) or rubber bushings that flex and makes things feel more "sloppy" than they should.

Your shifter and components is of better quality (IMO) than the later components in 996-997 cars.  Tons of plastic in those!!  The whole shifter assembly is plastic, actually.

It offends me!!    :rofl2:

I'll probably have to replace it because I know its there!    :rofl2:

I've never thought the shifter quality was of the same "greatness" as the rest of the driving experience in my Porsches.

Is that more or less than a new one with those features?

Pretty sure that's more. Most newer used Porsche sports cars are listed at or above MSRP right now.

It’s more. Pretty sure when I build the same car online it came out to $115 or so. The big options are paint, premium package and PDK.

IMHO you've got to be really desperate for a car to pay over MSRP. Especially used, that's just nuts, unless it's a classic obviously.

Agree. So out of curiosity I went back to the configurator to build the exact model (code: PNJH4FS5).

MSRP: $111,970 + $3,000 (freight / PDI) = $114,970
Used 2021 (9,000km + CPO): $124,900

So basically an extra $10,000 to drive off with the car on the weekend.

Is MSRP relevant if you can't actually buy a car though?

I forget if I had posted it but a while back there was a sapphire blue 2016 Cayman GTS that was $90k. MSRP for the base GTS was $91,850. I can't recall exactly how it was optioned but it was probably right around $100k. So 10% off MSRP from 5-6 years ago.

Now that would be a great lease deal if they would agree to 10% depreciation over 5yrs!

It must be something not everyone cares about because it's not uncommon, but I have a major pet peeve when I see different shades of red on the same vehicle, it's one of those things I can't un-see.  Carmine red, Bordeaux red, Guards red together just doesn't look good to my eyes.

The Bordeaux red belts don't make a lot of sense but the rest of it is fine IMO.

Having seen and driven the car, its only noticeable in pictures. Though I hear you, if I was going with Carmine red, which is a stunning colour btw, I would opt for the black calipers.
