Here's my rationale for putting down a $2,500 fully refundable deposit for a place in line for a build slot that who knows when will come:
- $100,000 was always at the top end of my Porsche budget
- If I take the above and look at new, Cayman GTS 4.0 makes the cut, just
- Cayman GTS 4.0 checks most if not all of my Porsche wish list: Flat six, manual, unique model, sports car, new, reliable, warranty
- As such, this was always my high end bookend when looking at used Porsches
- Everytime I looked at say a 2010 997.2 priced at $75,000, I always remind myself that for another $25,000 I get a new car
- At the lower end, like 996 and such, I have to be honest with myself, I don't really have the time to tinker or keep a semi project car, I just don't, as much as I'd love to
- Used Porsche prices are crazy, as you know, the may or may not come down, but new car prices are stable, you know how much you're paying, you just need to wait and wait and I'm ok with that
- Lastly, the deposit basically gives me an option that sometime down the road hopefully I'll have a chance to purchase a dream car, knowing I'm not getting hosed due to used car pandemic pricing
- In the meantime, I can continue to look
