This is the 911 I'd buy if I had the cash.

Love it!
Yeah, spec'd out nice in a different exterior colour & gorgeous tan interior. Plus its a 997.2, so no IMS issues.

Buddy of mine is not a huge car enthusiast but like the idea of a red, manual 911. In the past he's shopped for Volvo and Benz wagons but he's pretty cheap and never pulled the trigger. Good thing because he was forced into buying a Sienna when he had twins (has three kids total). Currently dailies a beater hand me down RAV4. He wants to go check out this: https://www.cargurus.ca/Cars/inventorylisting/viewDetailsFilterViewInventoryListing.action?sourceContext=carGurusHomePageModel&entitySelectingHelper.selectedEntity=d404&zip=L2R+4X9#listing=274616024

Price seems right. It was imported from the U.S. in 2008. Has had a few owners so the chances of there being complete service records are probably zero. I told him he would need to get a PPI done at a reputable shop. Also told him that chances are it won't depreciate a lot more.

Thoughts?

Definitely a nice spec though I always referred those wheels with the black inner spokes.

Love this 993.

http://www.corcars.com/vehicle-inventory/1995-porsche-911-c2-993-5

Video here.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWaJ_BfxrFk&t=11s

Price doesn't seem too bad for what it is.

Yes saw that over the weekend. This would be a good example of an investment piece.

This brings up a good topic, investment grade classic Porsche like the 993 above or modern Porsche, say Cayman?

Personally I'd take the 993 over a new Cayman.   If i planned on tracking it would be Cayman all day long but I don't track.  Problem with a lot of new cars is that they are a little underwhelming at road speeds, especially with the tall gearing most new manuals have.  Driving the 993 would seem like an event every time methinks.

And on the opposite side of the price spectrum...this could be an interesting project / summer runabout...less than $10,000

Agree. This one looks like a "Firm special"...just needs some DIY love and care and assuming could be flipped for a small profit.

How much does it cost to do the IMS bearing?   I notice the ad doesn't mention it.

I watched it being done on Wheeler Dealers  and it looks like an expensive fix to do it properly.

Depending on the IMS situation, if you could pick it up for $8k and fix up the minor things it would be a great entry level Porsche...

That actually looks like a very fair deal...I suspect it'll go quick. Seems to be heightened interest in the 1st gen Boxsters recently and that's one of the better prices cars, especially for a manual car, I've seen locally.
