I don't know if you guys (and gal ) are aware, but in addition to a new subscription service, Porsche recently launched a rental service. You can rent a variety of Porsches, including 911s and 718s. Not cheap but could be a great way to thoroughly test drive a particular model for a day or two.
Or, who knows, maybe it will sufficiently scratch that itch, that the need to spend big $$$ on a purchase subsides, for a while. Like taking a hit ![Smiley :)](https://www.autos.ca/forum/Smileys/CarTalk/smiley.gif)

So I signed up for the rental service. It's pretty neat. You download an app which you then use to rent various Porsches, but it is an application process. I had to provide them a picture of my driver's licence, myself, insurance card as well as a non-certified 3 year driver's record (all clean), and of course a credit card. Now that I'm all set up I simply use the app, pick a date and they drop off and pick up the car at my house.
I plan to use this as a way to test drive various modern Porsches to see what they are all about, and have a day date with the wife. I've never driven a Porsche so I'm starting with a clean perspective. I even received a text from them asking my preferences. I asked what kind of model they have within the 718 and 911 line-up, S vs. base, manual, etc. Their response was as follows:
"Fortunately, we have the Boxter, Cayman and 911 openly available on the fleet. We have S and base models and most vehicles are automatic but manuals are expected to be added to the fleet in the nearby future"
I want to start with the hairdresser's special: A base 718 Boxster PDK.
