Quote from: Great_Big_Abyss on January 25, 2021, 12:18:09 pmWell, I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. I'm sure both of us could point to various resources defending both of our arguments, and ultimately, it comes down to what the vehicle owner most feels comfortable with. Compared to the running costs of the Tundra (insurance and fuel), an extra $100 towards maintenance for a little peace of mind (justified or not) is quite paltry. You're not going to change my opinion on the matter, just like I won't change yours. And in the end, it's a pretty inconsequential thing to disagree upon. It's not like we're talking about Israel vs Palestine here, now is it?Agreed. As Vman pointed out (thanks Vman), I worked in the oil industry, and we had a lab, so it's not just a random opinion. Modern synthetics are way better than people think they are, and SIGNIFICANTLY better than what a dealer will tell you.

Fair enough, I'll concede and admit that I'm wrong on this. I still probably won't see more than 6k intervals on the truck, given that I'll be changing the oil at least yearly anyway.
Quote from: Great_Big_Abyss on January 25, 2021, 10:29:00 amNot talking about the car, it runs conventional anyway. My point relates more to the Tundra, or somebody else's RX350. You do a $200 oil change every 12 months or 16 000kms (which I think is too long, especially if you do many short trips - it's okay if all you drive is a bunch of highway). Then every 6 months between oil changes, you pay $100 to do an inspection - and they literally do nothing. My argument is, why not just pay the extra $100 and get an oil change every six months, lowering your interval down to 6 months/8000 kms? I mean, if you're driving a >$50k vehicle, why skimp over an extra $100/year?That being said, since I'm now getting oil changes done at my Indy, and I'm putting less than 6000kms/year on the Tundra, I'll just do an oil change once every 12 months, and it will be fine. But if I was still dailying it with short trips, I'd be going twice a year. Because you don't need the oil change. That's like saying why not just throw $100 in the trash, it's only $100? Yes you could right, but it's a waste.Quote from: Seafoam on January 25, 2021, 10:00:43 am I understand what most are saying here but what if you do mostly short trips? You are going to get more fuel contamination in the oil. That can't help for lubrication purposes. Don't owners manuals still have severe service schedules ?I see GBA does a lot of short trips by the look of his Civic's gas mileage. Can't be good for his oil.Personally I would change it sooner if there is a lot of short trips. People waste money on a lot of other things.Short trips or not, a good synthetic will easily cope. It's actually high heat for long periods (e.g. track days) that cause more of a breakdown of oil additives.

I get for it for normal driving, synthetic should protect and last longer. I just can't get past the Severe Service part. sorry I have a vehicle with the oil minder light and generally follow it. However I don't generally drive short trips.

Uh oh...https://www.autoblog.com/2021/02/01/porsche-stop-sale-sport-chrono/
Apparently, in the most highly strung Sport Plus mode, some of these older Porsche models emit too much nitrogen oxide, which means they aren't legal to sell in the United States.
buying a porshe is my dream which will definitely come true on day and I hope all of you will get it too. I love the style of porshe.
So did you buy a Porsche yet or what?
