WS 80
« on: November 21, 2019, 11:47:01 am »
Got my WS 80 exactly 2 years ago and I just checked them yesterday and they are completely worn well beyond the 4/32 requirement.
I did use the quarter test and I can see the Caribou nose well above the tire tread. I am disappointed that they only lasted me 2 years and need to get a new set. I will have to go to Kaltire and see if they will prorate my WS 80 and I will get the XIce 3. I have driven about 25000 km on them but still they should last at leas 3 winters and not 2.

Crazy, it might be worth getting an alignment.

My WS-80's after two winters and ~25k were at 8/32's and 7/32's.  So good for at least one more winter.

Do you drive at high speed around corners in the wet, in your Mazda?  Because that could be contributing to increased tire wear.

Caribou nose? Spend five bucks and get a proper gauge.  :P

I put 42,000 km on my WS80s and they were at just a bit less than 6/32”.

I check my alignment once a year and so far has always been good. I don't have issues with my OEM's.

The WS-70's on my drive wheels wore down quite quickly, due to my FWD spinning on intersections after a particularly bad winter with freezing rain

Otherwise they lasted a long time

Interesting as I was able to get 4 winters + left them on to burn off the rest of the tires this summer. Getting new winters next week. This is with a heavy foot with lots of boost.

My car is at kaltire to get a set of new xice3 (made in Spain). The gauge measured the fronts at 3/32 and rears at 4/32. The ws 80 have no tread warranty but they offered me 10% off so I’ll pay 133 a tire plus the rest of bs.

We took the WS-80s off the Corolla this fall at 6/32 just because I wasn't sure they'd last the winter, and the missus appreciates having fresh, excellent snow tires.  They lasted three winters and were down to 6/32, very acceptable wear considering the car travels about 12K a winter.

You're laughing about that, but we have had years when July and August were the only snow-free months.  We have put the snows on at the end of September and not taken them off until the May-long.

What are you going to get?  I got the WS-90 for the Buick from Costco.

We had a bout of freezing rain, and wow, the WS-90s are FREAKIN' AMAZING on glare ice.  I couldn't even stand up on the road in front of our house and the little Corolla just motored away like nothing.  I was sure it was going to slide down the driveway, but nope, off she went.  I know the price went up compared to the 80s, but so far, we're more than pleased with the price/performance ratio.

too soon for me to tell.  Only one snow storm.  Not really any ice.  And we have only had the Lucerne for 2 months now.  Never had Blizzaks before.  Was very happy with the  Continental Winterprocontacts.

So its all done. New XIce 3 are on my car and man they used a lot some oily stuff on them. Also I dont like that their tech did not took care to put a protective sheet in my car when drove it in the bay and then out when was done. My steering wheel and shift know felt like they were just oiled and my seat was so much forward than when I got into my car my chest touched the steering whee. I am not a tall man by any means. I asked who drove my car and a little girl said I had to move your seat forward so I can reach the clutch. It was funny. Now just to fill in the mail in rebate and get my 70 bucks back from Michellin. Also the search for summers just started and I narrow it down to Pirreli.
