The 2020 Toyota Camry and 2021 Avalon are getting AWD
« on: November 14, 2019, 07:13:09 am »
Of all places I saw this in a FB ad on my feed.

Toyota announced it’s making its Dynamic Torque Control AWD system (pulled from the 2019 RAV4) available as a standalone option on the Camry LE, XLE, SE and XSE, as well as on the brand’s flagship sedan, the Avalon Limited, both of which are built at the Toyota plant in Kentucky.

I wonder if Honda will AWD the Accord?

The Venza was a bit ahead of its time. It sold really well in Canada (I think it sometimes outsold the Camry!) but very poorly in the U.S. It wouldn't surprise me to see Toyota bring out a new CUV to compete with the Passport et al.

The AWD model is the first time the non-hybrid 2.5 is being offered in the Avalon.

Good move.  An AWD Avalon would not be hard to live with.

....and that was the sound of the Altima fading into the ether.  AWD was its only trump card.

If they pair this to that awesome V6, this would be an awesome little car.
Lighten up Francis.....

Doesn't sound like that's gonna happen though.

Drove my sisters V6 Venza a couple days ago, it's a big secure limo compared to what I drive. Very nice for winter.

You still see tons of them in Edmonton

The last time Toyota had AWD on the Camry (all track) I believe it was also 4 cylinder only. At least it could be had with a manual.

With all these utterly horrible CUVs around today, they should bring back the Corolla All Trac wagon, thats where its at.

It weird, its like you don't need a 4x8' slab of grill on every car.

Honestly, I doubt it. Whenever a sedan gets replaced on our street, its by some horrible, shapeless CUV blob. I'm not saying that this is the standard for all of Canada, but the way sales are going, sedans are going the way of the dodo.

Yup, adding AWD is merely a last hurrah, so to speak.  The people have spoken, and it turns out the people want a higher ride height, and actually care less about AWD (the existence of FWD CUV's in this country is proof of that).

I still don't think that buying a brand new FWD CUV in this area is a great idea for resale. Everything I see proudly displays its awd badges....again, around here.
