I would say a Caravan of sorts. For $5k you will get a way never car than going with the japanese.

Do you even English, bro?

Yep.

They are out there for 5k. Usually with 250k km or so. At least in Ontario.

At the 5k price point I'd get a Sienna over a Grand Caravan all day every day and twice on Sunday.

If full size, he could go with an older V8 4Runner. They had 7 seats, didn't they?

Weren't V8s dropped in the early 2000s?
They were introduced in 2003 and dropped in the late 2000s with the next gen. Really not great on gas though. I’d find a RAV4 V6 7 seater, rare combination though.

More like 3; b,t, and t.  Oh, and ‘Japanese’ should have an upper-case ‘J.’

I'd go GC too with the wants + budget. Out of the box option: Ford Taurus X / Freestyle, the pre-Flex large CUV from Ford, but avoid the models with the CVT. A co-worker had one and liked it. More trunk than a Journey.

Judging by the high km on them, they can't be that bad!

Forget all these vans...Get yourself the nicest 02-06 Tahoe or Tukon you can find in budget. Practically bulletproof, plenty of seating and space, supremely comfortable and even kinda respectable on gas assuming you stay away from the AWD 6.0L and stick with a push button 4x4 5.3L version.  Spend a couple hundred bucks on a nice aftermarket Bluetooth setup and call it a day.

My old boss had a 3 row Tahoe.  Didn't like it because of the high floor/truck base.  I found the 3rd row actually small.  I think a van is the only way to go

+1

These rigs have no trunk with the 3rd row up, and adults are seated too close to the high floor in the 2nd row.

To be fair, I don't use the 3rd row in our shorty 'Slade, but if I did I'd probably get the extended wheel base version (ESV, Suburban, Yukon XL). The few times I have used the 3rd row though the head and legroom seemed fine, it's moreso the fact that it does cut into cargo space in the short wheel base trucks.

Regardless, I'd sooner drive 7 people around in a clapped out Tahoe than any Van....but that's just me.

I’d buy the best Sienna I could within my budget. Those things handily go 400K or much more.

Parts are plentiful and cheap. Tons of indie techs that work on them and repairs are cheap when needed, which is rarely.

They’re roomy, comfy and if you find an AWD one, they’re great winter vehicles.
