^^ What’s the ratio of hatchback sales to wagon sales in Canada? 10 to 1? 5 to 1?

Given the numbers, I guess it makes sense for the hatchback but not the wagon? I dunno.

Hopefully it’s not a permanent thing and the wagon comes back some day. Doesn’t seem likely in these CUV-crazed times, but you never know. Didn’t the wagon disappear after the MK3, then come back for a bit as a Jetta, then disappear again until the MK7?

There are a lot more hatches for sale overall though.....particularly at the lower price points.

I get it but I also get Oliver's retort. It just sucks. The Golf wagon offers so much for so little and you don't have to be in a stupid CUV. Just a shame is all.

But people want CUV's.   ???

Funny, I was talking to one of the ladies in my office today, the one who sold me the Civic.  Her boyfriend insists that she drive a CUV with AWD, as he perceives the higher ride height and AWD as being safer for her.  She told me today that she prefers cars and their lower-to-the-ground, more connected feeling, and really preferred the Civic to the Acura, despite the RDX being a much nicer vehicle.

So, not everybody is into CUV's, even though their spouses will force their hand sometimes.

In the first six months of 2019 VW sold 6200 base Golfs here along with 2400 wagons. So the wagon take rate is actually quite high. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/369640/vw-golf-canada-base-model/

Yeah, I started looking too. Article I found says 10,500 total Golf sales, of which 2,400 were wagons. So, yeah, pretty high proportion.

https://canada.autonews.com/retail/why-and-how-vw-canada-plans-stockpile-fading-wagons-sell-during-2020

Still, there’s the whole complication of the switchover to the new MK8. Maybe VW simply doesn’t have extra production capacity on the wagons just yet? If there’s more demand in Europe, why forego sales there just to bring a few to Canada? Maybe when MK8 production is in full swing, we’ll see the wagon again for 2022?

The higher ride height makes the vehicle more likely to roll in an accident.  Not safer for her.

So these are being discontinued?  ???

The Sportwagen will no longer be offered in Canada after we finish selling out of the remaining 2019s.

Which is much like manual cars...you'll find plenty on an enthusiast forum....but the general public doesn't really care about it.

I see a TON of Golf Wagons in Ottawa.  I bet the hatch to wagon sales here are pretty even.

A ton is 2,000 lbs, so you've seen one?   ;D

I used to see loads before the diesel scandal. Then sales dropped off a cliff.

I loved it, it was fun and frugal. And I really like the look of the Arteon wagon, it just doesn't suit my needs right now, so I wouldn't buy one.

How can you not like that!

And as for Wagon vs CUV practicality, I fit an entire sofa in the back of mine!  :rofl2:  Can't do that with a CUV.

There are two new 2019 Sportwagens in Winnipeg, but they're Execline models for $38,375.  I can see why they wouldn't sell at that price.

I saw one in Calgary once.

Once.

How many members on this site?

Then you’re just not noticing them. I see loads of them around Calgary, but somehow I never see any Corollas.  ???  (Okay, I do see the Corolla hatchbacks. Those are kind of noticeable.  ;) )

And your question was already answered up the page: four.

That doesn't seem like a lot.  I'd be perfectly happy with the Comfortline at $24,400.

Sure you do, just gotta know what to shop for - VWs are never value contenders, the Tiguan did change that slightly in this new generation...

Those are fully loaded models though. Most loaded compact crossovers are at least that much.
