Congrats!

I suspect also my soon-to-come R

Great choice and will make a great daily.

If you do anything with your new job, bring the Golf R wagon to Canada. I don't care if it loses money  :P

+1  The CDN market desperately needs this.

Appreciate the interest, but some of you are reading a bit too deep into this! My comment re: competitor was broad, as in I worked for Hyundai Motor Group and now I work for Volkswagen Auto Group. I’m not implying Genesis and VW are direct market rivals.

Having now said that, for the sake of clarity, I now work specifically for the VW brand. Hope that helps!

good timing...my coworker just bought a VW for his kid...it was a 2006 Jetta, but it still counts.  :P

I've noticed a few missing things I liked (heated steering wheel, premium audio), but the basics are all there and the car feels like a damn vault. It's extremely pleasant to drive.

You've been given a mid-trim car hence no premium audio plus low-rent digital display, vinyl seats, halogen headlights, etc... MK7 Golfs did not come with heated steering wheel nor heated rear seats in any trim/model/year. MK8 will probably address that.

Congrats on the new job!

Yet.... will never happen! We should be lucky to get the wagon at all in the coming years.

Thanks! Mid-spec trim was intentional, it's a really solid value. My R, on the other hand... That will have all the (few available) toys  ;)

Agree about value. If it would come with some quality cloth seats and HID/LED headlights it would be the perfect package from my perspective.

It'd be surprising if Canada gets the Sportwagon, as it's being pulled from the US market. I can't see VW keeping the tooling and equipment on the assembly line in Puebla Mexique just for the Canadian market.

VW just doesn't really understand the Canadian market, in my opinion.

Should've kept an Elantra Sport for when the R's (inevitably?) in the garage.

Can't wait to see what you get and the stories that go along with them.

I dunno.  Bringing over Euro built Golfs is nothing new (like the Golf R).  It is just a matter of whether it's profitable.

Maybe, the Canadian market doesn't really understand VW.

Congrats on the move and the new wheels!

As much as I like the Highline wagon, whenever I build one online for myself I either go to the Comfortline (if I'm feeling frugal) or to the Alltrack (if I'm feeling flush.) Comfortline has everything I really need, and I think it's a real bargain at that price.

If I were to have a two-VW driveway, I think my ideal would be a base GTI (because sporty should be simple and light, IMO) and a loaded Alltrack (because why not all the luxury stuff on an AWD wagon.) But I wouldn't sneeze at your combo either!  ;D

FWIW, Highline is the new Comfortline.  Execline is the new Highline.  Why?  Who the hell knows.

Oh, is that a 2020 thing?

VW.ca is still showing Comfortline, Highline, Execline for the 2019s. ???

No, I thought you were saying the top trim was too rich but wanted the mid trim.

Now I see that Comfortline/Trendline is what you're after. My bad.

Yeah, that's what I was getting at. I skipped over the Execline, because I figure you may as well go straight to the Alltrack by that point. At least I would, especially with the sportier GTI in the driveway beside it.  ;)
