Wagon Wednesday (Every Day) - 2019 VW Golf SportWagen
« on: August 28, 2019, 07:24:29 pm »
As I alluded to in another post, after 10 incredible years with Hyundai and Genesis, this week was my last with the organization. I've made the jump to a new (more German!) OEM, which means new vehicles in the driveway.

Here is #1 - a 2019 Golf SportWagen Highline 1.8T DSG (4MOTION), with Driver Assistance Package, in Platinum Grey over Titan Black. Welcome to the VW family, indeed!

This will be my wife's daily driver, but I'll be using it for a few weeks. It will soon be joined by a smaller, faster vehicle of the three pedal variety, but that's for another time.

Only just drove it home this evening and can't help but be blown away. I've always liked the Mk. 7 Golf but had not yet had a chance to try the wagon. What a package.

Smaller, faster, 3-pedal - I’m guessing Golf R.

What, if anything, does it reveal when insiders bail?
why would you say "bail"??...perhaps an opportunity presented itself that he couldn't pass up...scheduling, income, opportunities to move up the ladder, etc...it may not have anything to do with his previous employer at all (in terms of bad).

That after an extremely positive employment relationship the person in question was given an opportunity to join a new organization and see new things, in a more senior role? That's one option.

That's not a bad theory...  :P

Congrats on the move.

We also love our Golf Wagon.

Why no manual in the wagon?  And how was the transition coming from a luxury car?

My wife doesn't drive manual (or have any desire to learn), and as this will be her daily, DSG it is. As for the transition, it's funny and amounts to the most "first world" of all problems, but I always felt odd driving the G70. It's an incredible car, but at $58K, a little rich for my blood if I were banished from the industry and had to go buy my own car today.

The SportWagen, and I suspect also my soon-to-come R, feels much more "my speed." I've noticed a few missing things I liked (heated steering wheel, premium audio), but the basics are all there and the car feels like a damn vault. It's extremely pleasant to drive.

Just wanted to say congrats on the new job.  With VW's being so popular on this forum it will be nice to have an "insider" amongst us.

So, I'm a little confused, though.  I didn't think of VW as a competitor to Genesis.  Competitor to Hyundai, sure.  But I feel like Audi is more of a competitor to Genesis.  And in your previous thread, you mentioned that you'd be going to work for a company that only recently became a competitor, i.e. since Genesis became a separate brand.

So, I feel like you're actually going to be working for Audi.  And since Audi is part of VWAG, then you're getting VW's as your company cars (which is an AWESOME benefit, BTW).

So, Congratulations on the new position, but I'm not convinced you're working for VW directly, especially considering you haven't actually come out and said it yet.

If he worked for Audi, he would drive an Audi. No? This is not complicated. All car makers in Canada are pretty much competitors. Do you think VW Canada doesn't know how well and what is selling in Genesis / Hyundai, or vice versa?
I love it when a plan comes together.

I stand by my statement, and I guess we'll find out either way.

I wouldn't say Genesis competes with the Germans. I view it more on the "Value Luxury" segment: Acura, Infiniti, Lincoln, Cadillac, etc.
Hmmm...I like that - "Value Luxury" vs the "FGC Keep As A Lease" Luxury segment!
