It'd be surprising if Canada gets the Sportwagon, as it's being pulled from the US market. I can't see VW keeping the tooling and equipment on the assembly line in Puebla Mexique just for the Canadian market.

I dunno.  Bringing over Euro built Golfs is nothing new (like the Golf R).  It is just a matter of whether it's profitable.
Well, the Golf R is priced notably higher with lower volumes, so it can absorb the higher costs of transport and manufacture (remember, whose wages and benefits you're paying  :shuffle: ) . But last time VW imported the Golf with the previous versions it was always derided as too expensive. Plus, it means re-certifying everything just for a low price, low volume market. The motors you guys get for the normal Golfs are built in MX and specific to the North American market.

VW (the brand, not the group) is unprofitable enough as it is. I doubt they'd like to shoot themselves in the foot. They're in the business to make money, not please enthusiasts.

VW just doesn't really understand the Canadian market, in my opinion.

But now they will.  ;)

I will certainly do my best.  ;)

Congrats on the move and the new wheels!

As much as I like the Highline wagon, whenever I build one online for myself I either go to the Comfortline (if I'm feeling frugal) or to the Alltrack (if I'm feeling flush.) Comfortline has everything I really need, and I think it's a real bargain at that price.

If I were to have a two-VW driveway, I think my ideal would be a base GTI (because sporty should be simple and light, IMO) and a loaded Alltrack (because why not all the luxury stuff on an AWD wagon.) But I wouldn't sneeze at your combo either!  ;D

Can't say I disagree with your approach! Our household ends up being a little more splintered in that my wife's taste in vehicles is quite different from mine. She wanted the long-roof and vinyl (at minimum) was a must seeing as we have a 2-year old and a dog. I prefer cloth as well, but there's no denying the functional benefits of the synthetic leather!

If small children and dog, why not a Tiguan or at least an Alltrack? SUV averse?

Tiguan interior quality is below the Golf. And if you don't need the size the GSW is a way better value.

I still have a weak spot for this AWD SportWagen, if ever they come back as full EV instead of the ID 3, who knows.. https://youtu.be/4AqHpoexQ8U

It matters so much that VW is cancelling the Tiguan and bringing in 10x more Golf and Wagons to the market!

Update time!

Just as I brought my Golf R Show 'n Shine up to speed with my second example, it's time for a Sportwagen double-header since I've now had not one, but two new ones.

On December 23rd, I picked up a new Sportwagen in identical spec aside from colour (Silk Blue) to replace the Platinum Grey Highline 1.8T DSG example I originally got when I joined VW in September.

The car saw extensive use for family hauling and my wife's commute until Covid hit, at which point she began staying home with our daughter. Not knowing what was coming, I ordered a replacement unit in late February, expecting we'd crest our 10,000 km threshold in fairly short order. It wasn't to be: when I finally made an appointment to take the new unit off Pfaff VW's lot last week, our blue wagon had just 8,000 km on the clock.

For our next (and likely final  :() Sportwagen, my wife wanted something brighter. It really doesn't get much brighter than Tornado Red, a classic VW group colour dating back for decades and best known as the hero colour for the GTI. I personally think it looks great on the long-roof. With my wife now on maternity leave as of two weeks ago, this one should likely last us until the winter, at which point we'll be out of Sportwagen units and I'll have to figure out what she drives next.

All told, I'll be very sad indeed to see this thing go. It truly is a perfectly-balanced family hauler. Quiet, comfortable, and spacious, with decent performance and handling, it does everything an SUV can without the added bulk. I've covered a lot of the other strengths in my Golf R thread (material quality, ergonomics, etc.), and as for weaknesses, there really isn't much to quibble about. The Highline remains the value sweet spot in the line-up, but I really wish it had LED headlights. Looking forward to continued enjoyment behind the wheel the rest of this year.

Both are great colours.   It would be a tough choice for me between the blue and red.  However, the red would definitely have you stand out from the crowd.

Why wouldn't you be able to keep it/buy it out?

Sure, but I'm not keen on abandoning the whole "new car every 3-6 months" thing.  ;D

The Sportwagen will no longer be offered in Canada after we finish selling out of the remaining 2019s.

That red is very sharp but I might be a bit biased.  I didn't even know red was an option for the wagon, I don't think I've seen that on the road here.

It certainly will be sad when VW doesn't sell any wagons.

So disappointing. I know a few people who own new ones and love them. My dad still has his 2014 TDI wagon as well.

I think VW is alienating its customers with this move.

For anybody sitting on a bag of cash VW has $4,000 off their wagons right now.

I'm glad we still bought a 2019 Wagon then.. got a great deal too. Comfortline 4Motion with DSG and Driver Ass. Package for $26K out the door.  ;D

My family buys a lof of VW's but only the European ones. We have a Golf R and a Golf Wagon. My parents have a Tiguan and a Golf Wagon. My brother drives a GTI. It would be sad to lose more Euro models.. already lost the Passat and Touareg and now the Golf Wagon.

You'd think, but likely a Jetta. My wife tends to prefer smaller cars and it has a huge trunk. I will still have a Golf (likely GTI by then) or may try and Arteon for a while.

No doubt there's still a market for the wagon in Canada, but not in the U.S. - and without their involvement, the business case becomes very difficult.

Is the Alltrack being axed as well or just the wagon?

Yes, they're effectively the same vehicle aside from some cosmetic items and a bit of ride height.

my parents loved theirs...they'd likely still have it if it weren't for the dieselgate buyback thing a couple of years ago.
