Need help selecting my new family vehicule
« on: July 27, 2019, 05:32:04 pm »
Good afternoon,

I will be buying a new vehicle in the next 3 weeks and I would like your input to help me make my final decision.

I currently own a 2007 Fit and I need a vehicle that performs better in our harsh winters. I have two young children (4 and 5) and we are a one vehicle family. This will be the first time I finance a vehicle.

My criterias:

-It needs to be AWD or 4x4.  I absolutely need something that is great for snow.
-Looking for something reliable, with as low mileage as possible. (80k max) Would rather have 50ish.
-Size is note really an issue, our Fit was good enough spacewise but wouldnt mind a bigger vehicle.
-Fuel economy is not an issue for me as we drive about 15k ish km,s a year.
-Ideally 2014-2016 range, would rather not go older that 2012.
-Budget would be a maximum of 16k.
-Japanese

Some options I've considered:

- Nissan Juke
- Subaru Impreza
- Subary Legacy
- Mazda CX-5
- Honda CR-V (probable too expensive)

Thanks for your input!

Add the RAV4 to your list.

Where are you located?  General area, like Toronto, Calgary, etc.  It would help us look for local examples for you.

Thanks for the reply,

Im from Montreal. The Rav4 was also on the list but it seemed a bit more expensive than the others. In the CR-V category

I would probably add the Subaru Crosstrek to your list.  It would be slightly bigger than your Fit but it has more ground clearance than majority of CUVs.

Crosstrek would be a good choice.

Might be stretching your budget but a 2014 ish RAV4 XLE would be a good long term vehicle

For snow you need more than just AWD, you also need ground clearance. Crosstrek, Forester, CX5 would be my choices.

Honda HRV.  Like your Fit, much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, plus those handy magic seats.  Less costly than a CRV.  AWD available.

How does the Nissan Rogue rate in terms of reliabilty?
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

HRV would be the perfect vehicle for us  but it is a bit too recent and not in our price range unfortunately :(

Would love  opinions on this one as well, not a big fan personally but would consider if its the best value.

I know a few people with Rogues and they've all been happy. Great value used

Mechanics I know though say if the CVT goes it's virtually impossible to fix

CX-5 tends to be well priced around here, as are Venza's

Juke's have some issues with the engine I believe

Ive driven it for around 200kms so far and it is as smooth a ride as I could have hoped for.
