Unlike something like a Ford Explorer or some other CUV, 200 000 doesn't seem to be a death knell for this truck.  It seems to built to the same formula to which Toyota builds it's 4-Runner.

Yeah it must be why there are only 5 of them for sale Canada wide on Autotrader. They are so f reliable that they actually appreciated in value since hitting rock bottom.....that is for sure!

There's only 5 of them because they never sold in great numbers while new.  It also goes a long way towards explaining why they're relatively expensive.  If I look up 2001 - 2006 Ford Explorers, there are pages and pages of them nationally.  They seem to go for about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of the Montero.  It's basic supply and demand.

These things are very hard to find since they were only sold in Canada for max 2-3 years I think (Mitsu came to Canada in 2002) and in small numbers. The same goes for the Montero Sport - hard to find them never mind good units.

Yes, they were reliable vehicles if properly maintained and a dying bread hence the price for a good unit can be higher than what the age/km would otherwise entail. I would imagine they are thought after by a very small and specific group of buyers which are willing to pay a premium for a good unit.

This is very true, I have had people come to me at car washes, gas stations, oil change places and even the dealership expressing interest in ours. They are pretty freaking reliable but parts are kind of a PITA to get but doable thanks to the net. Wife and I would happily buy a newer, 2015+, if available, as we love ours. Comparing them to an explorer is hilarious......
Lighten up Francis.....

The reason a 13 year old Mitsubishi Montero with 200 000+kms is still worth 8 or $9k is the same reason there are TONS of 13 year old Tundra's on Autotrader with 200 000+kms from low teens to low $20k's.

They are relatively rare compared to the competition (GM, Ford, Dodge), they are very reliable, and they just hold their value.

I know I would have no issue buying a Sequoia/Tundra/GX460/LX570/Montero with 200K km on them.....can't say that for a Ford.

Yeah.... Same with the pre-2003 4Runners. Loved them then, still like them now. Land Cruisers too...those are even harder to find, older and way more expensive.

Far cry from the modern cars today but they have their charm and purpose.

$8k must be 1/5th what they sold for brand new at the time?

Don’t tell Tauri13 I dumped $4700 on a 16 year old SUV with 330k.

The only advantage to the Sequoia's (and Tundra's) design not having been updated in so long means if you buy a super old one, you're not really giving up as much compared to a new one.  With regards to tech and features, and even fuel economy.

That’s not bad...what I’d expect a 16y old SUV to be priced at - NOT $13k :)
