Bryker Hyde Minimalist 2.0 Wallet
« on: July 02, 2019, 06:49:39 pm »
I know this isn't your typical review for a car forum...but since you can't leave home without your wallet, here's a review of my new wallet.

I'm stubbornly (stupidly?) picky when it comes to wallets...mainly because I insist on having an ID window.  So that cuts down on some of my options.  I also wanted some elements of a minimalist wallet...but not super minimalist because I need to carry my license, ID and about 10 cards. I also like having a space for a few bills even though most of my purchase of electronic.  I also like leather.  I LOVE the Bellroy wallet line...but they just didn't have one for me.  But I'd highly recommend their wallets just the same. Beautiful and functional with many nice touches.

I stumbled onto Bryker Hyde wallets by accident..and after using their Minimalist 2.0 for a week or so, I'm super impressed.

First is quality.  The leather is beautiful. The stitches are all very nice with no imperfections.  Branding (thankfully) is kept to a minimum with only their small logo on the outside corner. But where the wallet shines is in functionality. There are 4 outside pockets where you can store your most used cards. Bank cards, bus passes, credit cards, etc.  This is an element of a minimalist wallet I wanted...easy card access.  The outside slots are a "V" shape so you can easily slide the card up with one thumb for access. Moving to the inside, there is the ID window.  Under the ID window is a slot for another card or two.  And on the opposite side there are 2 slots plus one slot under those.  Then a firm money clip that snaps open/close for your bills.  It holds fast...I have yet to have any bills move.

It's also light and small.  I favor front pocket carry.  With 4 bills and 12 cards it measures in ~20mm at the thickest part.

And price? $44 all in delivered.  I chose their charcoal distressed leather.

So there you have it...my new, sleek wallet.

Thanks for the recommendation. My old wallet decided to seek a life of freedom when I forgot to close my jacket pocket. I only need to carry three cards however — my bank card, Costco card, and drivers license, so I might go with a phone case that can hold 3 cards.

For your needs, I suggest:

Bellroy Micro Sleeve or Card Sleeve (beautiful and functional) ($69 and $79)

Tumi Slim Card Case ($60)

Anson Calder Cash Plus (luxury item!...$125 US)

Otto Angelino (looks like an envelope, very nice and price is right!) ($20)

Andar Duke Slim ($70)

Dash Slim ($70)

Ekster (any of them)  about $80-$100

Those are few...(can you tell I spent way too much time looking at wallets?)

You spend too much time wanting the best of everything!

I saw one at Dierks that I like but do I really want to carry a separate wallet now that I’m happy carrying just three cards? I wish Costco would switch to digital cards so I can cut it down even further.

Not so much that....but I'm going to have it for a LONG time. So the cost per year is pretty low.

Also...I've been burned by buying cheap...then being disappointed..and having to re-buy..which ends up costing me more in the end.  Which also irritates me to no end.    :rofl2:

Nice choice Ron. Our wallet wishes match very closely. I wish more wallets had a ID window and fewer had bs rfid protection- which makes me have to remove my transit card and office security card in order to use them.

I've considered the phone case but dread the day I would lose my phone, ID and bank cards all at once.

ID windows I am not sure about. Most times ID is required I end up having to remove it from the window.

I can track my phone at least, which is what happened when I dropped my phone on the freeway while riding back in January.

Very nice. My needs are similar and existing wallet is very much into worn out, "Dad" territory. I like that one but not sure about the bill holder. Nice review.

. I like that one but not sure about the bill holder. Nice review.

Same here!  Never had a clip before.  But so far....nothing has moved, come loose, etc.  Even had a small piece of paper (small receipt) clipped in and it didn't move.

So far, so good.

But they do have a couple of actual billfold wallets you can check out...
