In the used car world I definitely see more big mile GM trucks than anyone else (including Toyota). The 6.0 V8 is top of the food chain in LD truck engines, 500,000 km really doesn't bother them much. Hopefully they've improved the dfm in the new engines so we don't have any more lifter problems.

As far as the diesel, I don't agree with the use of a timing belt. I also don't agree with the use of timing chains...far too many modern vehicles that use chains end up costing a fortune to fix (ford 5.4 and my old VQ Maxima come to mind) far more than a belt would cost to replace. Gears or nothing at all. I have no opinion on the aluminum block/heads, should be fine for a LD engine though and saves weight.

I keep telling him to buy a new truck already (pointing him in the direction of the Toyota dealership), but he won't have any of it.

Psst!  Hey...tell him to check this out then!
$399/mo lease on a Lariat.  That's $100 less per mo than the Ranger they have.

Same terms though? I didn't see how long the lease was for.

My FIL has a company truck but it's just a Hertz rental. Brand new Silverado LT crew cab 4x4, nicely equipped, $900/month with unlimited KMs. Seems like a pretty good deal to me.

That's a good deal, most of them don't allow towing unfortunately. I checked Enterprise truck rental and I'm looking at $2,000/mo.

Does nobody edit or proof these AutoTrader articles for accuracy anymore?

Bold of you to assume anyone ever edited them in the first place...

But seriously, we got the Silverado 1500 and 2500 photos in one batch and this one got dropped in the wrong folder. Which reminds me, I really should book that eye exam.

250K is when i buy my vehicle. Lol.  Seriously timings belt is a downer.  Is this engine brand new or was it used globally somewhere else?. Ive seen videos of the 2.8 I4 in Asia before but not this one.

No idea, never got that far...and oddly, they haven't called me back.  Probably 8 yrs, 16,000 km per year, with a $25,000 buyout.  Even then I might be low.  Gotta be a catch.

Bah, you drive a Jeep!

(Doesn't wifey drive an F150? Bet she LOVES it!)

And/or if you like your steering wheel centered...or if you like rear seat leg room...

GM has always been a little lacking in that area, even on the full 4 doors.  I've got size 9-10's...I have to turn them sideways to get out of a Chevy...my kid has sz 12-13's, he doesn't have to do that in a Ford.   Sure, there's enough in a GM...but there's just more in a Ford.  Get a Chevy owner in the back of a Ford and they ask where's the disco ball?  Got a dance floor back there, it's flat, and spacious.

are you sure you aren't thinking of QuadCab vs CrewCab??...i think all the CrewCab trucks (4 size 4 door max space ones) have a lot of rear seat room...each brand often has two sizes of 4 doors, a smaller and a larger one.

I don’t think a Diesel will fix the Silverado sales issue...

Ram’s Monster Month Stands Out in Sputtering U.S. Auto Market

“Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV’s surging Ram truck brand had a monster month in June, carrying the Italian-American carmaker to a surprise total sales gain in a shrinking market.

Ram’s pickup model deliveries soared 56% to 68,098 units, approaching the level of monthly sales typically reached only by Ford Motor Co.’s F-Series, the top-selling vehicle line in America for almost four decades. Ram powered a 1.9% increase in total deliveries for Fiat Chrysler...”

In the old GM trucks it was noticeable...I just checked though...and it seems it now has as much room in the back as the Ford does; 43.4" for the Chevy/GM twins, 43.5" for the F150 - so a wash.  GM wins the front leg room by a margin of 43.9" to 44.5".  If only they weren't so ugly.  ;D (Pretty sure GBA's Tundra has more rear seat/leg room than either of them - nope, wrong again  :'( 42.5" front, 42.3" rear - made for short people  ;D)

When we're talking about a range of 42.5" - 43.5", what's an inch or so between friends.  Seriously.  That inch doesn't matter.  Point is, the crew cab trucks of all brands are now seriously large with seriously roomy back seats.  Comfort or claustrophobia is no longer an issue with this big crew cab trucks, no matter the brand.

Seriously,  42.5" is more rear seat legroom than a Mercedes-Maybach S650 (40").  Which is to say, it is sufficient.

I've been in the back of GM/Ford/Toyota/Dodge crew cabs, never have I been wanting for any kind of room.

the crew cabs are all nice...the quad cabs can be tight though...my coworkers previous truck, a quad cab Sierra was pretty tight in the back...the F150 that replaced it is a crew cab and it is cavernous by comparison.

The wifes Ford extended cab is quite tight, have not been in the back of any other extended cabs as they are not very popular for this very reason.

You could extol the virtues of the Tundra's rear seat by 'splainin' that uh, yours moves fore and aft, where mine (and probably everyone else's) does not.  Or the fact the ENTIRE BACK WINDOW (Sweet!) rolls down, not just some stupid little doggy sized door your kids couldn't even crawl through if you had a cap on the back.  You want a drink back there?  Sorry kids, that means I have to stop... :P  Fails Straight Pipes small Timmies test.  :(  John Candy could get through your window.  Could've.
