I wouldn't consider timing belt, aluminum block and heads to be advantages. And $47,730 for a 2WD LT? Jesus.
Yup, that has completely turned me off this engine, aluminum block and heads and a timing belt, nope, not in a diesel. Iron heads, iron block and a gear driven timing set is the only way to go for a diesel.
To be Fairrrr, this diesel is more of a daily driver diesel, and less of a workhorse diesel. I wouldn't expect a Silverado 1500 to go much past 250 000kms anyway, so that's only as long as the engine has to be reliable for, right?
Unlike the big HD trucks that should be expected to go half a million kms without much issue.
I'd be seriously pissed to only get 250,000km out of a new Silverado.
Maybe hes used to having a Ford truck
Christ. My boss has an F150 with 250 000kms. Both leaf springs in the rear are broken, the HVAC doesn't work properly, the radio headunit doesn't display anymore, he's having problems with the 5.4, he's had power steering pump issues, the windshield trim broke off and flaps in the wind (it's been duct taped for years now), the power window module doesn't work anymore, what else? Oh ya, and it's starting to rust badly.
He doesn't trust the truck to take it out of town anymore, and doesn't want to put any more money into it. As far as I'm concerned, that's EOL for that particular truck.
I keep telling him to buy a new truck already (pointing him in the direction of the Toyota dealership), but he won't have any of it.
