Vantage's 2004 S2000
« on: June 19, 2019, 01:16:07 pm »
I figured this puppy needed its own official Show'n'Shine rather than the "hey I bought a car that used to be on this forum!" one from a couple of years ago.

This year I did spark plugs/coils/valve adjustment along with an oil change at the beginning of the season. It got new brake pads and rotors last summer as well as new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. I also just got it ceramic coated, and added a BT45-HON3 Bluetooth streaming audio module to the factory head unit so I can listen to my music, and added an S2000 CR shift knob with the yellow shift pattern to match the car's Rio Yellow paint.

Car's been running beautifully, I've put about 3,500km on it in the ~2 years I've owned it now. Still hasn't seen rain, and is garage kept and sparingly used. It's seen a few track days now, and the 4S rubber is excellent for my use.

Amazing car. Glad you’ve tracked it.

Honestly man, it's an absolute blast even to just drive on the open back roads. While there's some (minimal) redundancy with the Vantage also being a RWD, manual two-seater, the two cars couldn't be more different. The S2000's clutch/shifter combination is absolutely perfect, and the way it wakes up when VTEC engages is like nothing else. 8,200RPM shifts are frequent and fun, and the car LOVES being in that 6,000-8,200RPM part of the power band. Plus, there's no better feeling than a summer evening highway cruise with the top down and tunes up.

I’ve been fortunate to have a decent amount of seat time in dads S2K and it’s almost the perfect car.

Handling is race car like. Cars like this are so rare. Light instead of powerful. Love it.

The power delivery makes you feel like you’re driving an F1 car. Zero torque is amazing when you’re ripping to 9000rpm.

The shifter is literally the best one in any road car ever.

The looks have held up well, and to me it looks better than ever as styling tends have changed. Now it’s sleek and simple and the almost retro feel makes it even better.

It’s built to a superb standard and is not ridiculous to look after.

The only thing that makes it 99% perfect to me instead of a true perfect score is the tone of the stock exhaust. It’s just not quite racy enough for me. Easily solved.

Proper! The S2000 does look timeless.

Snowman would be proud.

She looks great even compared to all the new cars that came after.  It's awesome that she found a proper home.

It's crazy how small of a car it is.  The Vantage isn't a large vehicle, but it looks like a large car parked next to the Honda.

And the Lexus?  The top of the tire looks like its higher than the top of the S2000's fender.

Check out the MR2 as well, it's downright Smart-Car-Like in today's world.  Miata, S2K, MR2, and cars from that era are soooo small.  Stand next to an original NS-X and it's shocking how small it is compared to newer cars, no matter the class - even exotics.

It's funny, the Vantage is about 8-9 inches longer than the S2000, but they're both exactly the same height (which is perfect for the lift; regardless of which vehicle is on top, it sits on the same locks).

I just got home from work; took the S2000 today and actually filled the tank for the first time since October. It's averaged 10.6L/100km since I bought it; hand calculated using Fuelly. Lexus averaging about 11L/100km (it's great on the highway but trash in the city), and the Aston about 14.5L/100km.

Yep, the MR2 is tiny indeed, surprisingly even compared to the S2000.

Fantastic looking S2K Adi, Snowy would be very happy knowing that it went to such a great home!

Having seen this car numerous times at Snowman's place I'm glad you now have it as it will be well cared for.

Still love the looks of these.

It's been my busiest summer yet, and amidst planning a wedding and sorting out some upcoming changes in my life, I just haven't had time to drive the toys as much as I'd have liked to. Foresight for the next six weeks doesn't seem any better, so I decided to park the S2000 early this year. It didn't get to go to the track even once this season, and I only put about ~500km on it in total since April.

The only real change is that it gets a new parking spot up high this season! The way my spring is looking with a wedding and everything around it, there's a chance she won't even see the light of day until June or July.  :'( It's a sad thought, but like Firm says, sometimes life gets in the way and I'm at least very fortunate to have the toys of my dreams.

Can you ship it to Winnipeg so I can look after it?

What size snow tires does it wear?   :o  ;D

She's out for the season. Started on the first crank, let all the fluids warm up and took her for a brief spin.

Not looking to do much this season, other than a GuardianDesigns steering wheel and shift boot. The below, but with yellow stitching and the racing trip on top in yellow as well. Looks OEM+

that S2000 is 16 years old and still looks new...as well, if Honda sold that car today, as it is, it would still look great (it has aged well).
