So first things first, I know you need an efficient car for it to make financial sense, my vehicle is the 2015 Mazda 3 GS as many of you know which is about as fuel efficient as non hybrid come. I'm just curious to see if anyone here does that and how it's worked for them. I'm studying currently and my current full-time job is leaving me next to no time for that and I need my degree, but at the same time I need an income. Figured it should be great especially coupled by a part time job on weekends. Dunno if there's anything I should be made aware of or any catches. I've already initiated the process of adding class 4C to my license. The ability to select your own shift and take unlimited time off is just alluring in my current situation.

I would be concerned about what your insurance company wants to cover this usage, I certainly wouldn't do it without notifying them

Valid concern for sure, I double checked with them before considering it and they said it's fine.

Yeah, most insurance companies are fine as long as it is part time (i think less than 20 hours a week). They dont like to insure UbeaEats vehicle though (I wonder why)
I had read an article previously that after factoring in all the expenses and taxes, Uber drivers make ~$18/hr. (i know it depends on a lot of factors, but that was the average).

My insurance company is intact and they told me it's fine I just need to report to them if I end up going over my annual mileage because of Uber and I need to report that before I go more than 2k KM over said mileage. Interestingly enough, intact is fine with Uber eats, but my friend who's covered by SSQ said they're ok with Uber rides but not Uber eats so it seems you're right.

I mean it should be fun if you like driving, and 14-18 dollars an hour which is what most ppl report isn't bad at all.

So order an Uber XL.

A Mazda 3 would be huge compared to most the Ubers I rode in in Mexico.

In EU and Mexico I would expect small cars , but not in Canada or US

In Montreal, most Uber drivers will pick you up in a Toyota Corolla, Hyundai Elantra, Mazda 3, or a Honda civic. That is assuming you order an Uber X vehicle. I don't think the Mazda 3 is so much smaller than the others as to make it a deal breaker.

Uber X is basically small cars for the most part, you'll need an Uber XL if you absolutely have to go bigger but that'll cost you more for the same ride, so unless you have lots of ppl or stuff to haul, it makes little sense

^The Prius would be great for Uber for obvious reasons, but I couldn't convince myself to get one. I'll admit that I wasn't looking for anything rally like a WRX, but something's gotta give, and I wanted something that's reasonably fun but not a girl hog, a Prius isn't the former by no means. It was basically down to Honda civic vs Mazda 3 for me and the I got a good deal on a 2015 Mazda 3 with winter tires and infotainment system so I settled for that one. Fuel economy is still very reasonable for a non hybrid vehicle too.

As an occasional Uber client, I've found that the Sentra is the best cheap car as there's more room in the back than a Civic or Corolla.

Sent from my BLA-L29 using Tapatalk

The Sentra is a very valid choice, but the Nissan I was looking at was actually the Altima, and (ironically) after getting an Uber ride in one, I decided it's a good vehicle, but the constant CVT droning convinced me this ain't the car for me.

In fact, a CVT civic is less taxing on my ears than an Altima which is just odd.

The only way I would drive for Uber is to buy a separate car just to use as an Uber. Something small, fuel efficient and cheap. No way would I use my own car to transport other people. I'm sure some are respectful and considerate but my experience with people is that a lot of them don't care and will mess up your back seats.
