The BC Liberals increased the speed limit of three highways from 110 to 120, but I think the BC NDP rolled back the speed limit on two of those back to 110. Stupid BC NDP.

Holy :censor:, 143kph.  There are some older cars that would be maxed right out at that speed.

I shudder to think of the fuel economy my truck would return at that speed.

When driving through the states, 65-70mph is usually the limit I drive at...for the sake of fuel economy.

I’ve come back from the mountains a couple of times booking it in the HL at 140-150 and damn does it drink fuel at that speed. Can imagine the Tundra would be like someone’s shot a hole in the tank.

that is great! My Alfa loves to cruise at 140+. Mileage is the same as 100. When does Ont. get these new raised limits?
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Not really a big deal IMO. For anybody that has driven through Oklohoma you already know this is hardly a breaking news stories. These freeways have low volume and go through wide open spaces.  Traffic was probably moving at these limits already.

Yea I don’t like going more than 110 on my Sequoia. I’m typically doing 10 under the speed limit on a multi lane highway unless the speed limit is 90 then I’ll do the speed limit.

I’d like to agree, but the reality is that people are right at their limit of driving ability at 120. While I’d like to see realistic speed limits, we need to raise driver skill and awareness dramatically.

Yep, That's the catch. Steering, tires, suspension and powertrain in modern cars are easily able to handle higher speed limits. The limiting factor is the nut behind the wheel.

I do agree that it makes sense for modern divided highways somewhere sparely populated and mostly flat.  Heck, for that matter there are parts of the Maine Turnpike that have 2+ mile straightaways where often there is only 1 or 2 other cars in sight.

Does it take a higher level of skill to drive a car at 120 vs 100 though? I don't think it does.

Skill? Probably not.  It certainly takes more awareness, however.  Doing 120 on one of Canadians highways requires the driver to pay a lot more attention to his surroundings than is required on a limited-access Interstate highway.

No kidding. Doing 160 kph in parts of Utah/Nevada is much easier than driving most parts of the 401.

Braking distances are far more than 20% father from 120 than 100.

As speed increases following distances need to increase dramatically.  People follow as close at 120 as they do at 60, but the energy in a crash at 120 compared to 100 or 80 or 60 is much greater.

If you don’t think it does, then you are one of those people who should not drive over 100km/h.

Every increase in speed requires better reflexes, situational awareness, and skill.

Exactly. Drivers are too busy doing everything in their cars but driving and paying attention.

190 is apparently safe...in some countries having looked at driving fatalities there which is lower than those in the US. They also have far less attitude while driving and their driver training runs about $3000 for the course.

Most of them failed physics back in school. Maybe they should look up KE.
