I would go for the mustang without a doubt. V8, rear wheel drive and if you want to go for a longer drive, its not as punishing.
Lighten up Francis.....

Between those two Bullit in a nanosecond.  I was filling up the other day when one slowly rolled out of the adjacent car wash.  Fack - that sound and that deep green paint.... I'd grab it over the Civic.  Every.  Single. Time.

Uh, 1LE

 :P

I love both, man. Both among my favourite cars. Buy the one that speaks to you and don’t ask the peanut gallery.

Huh?  Isn't discussing possible purchase options kind of what we do here?   ??? He's not looking for anyone to make the decision for him.

mustang, probably.

i'm also trying to decide whether to go 4 cyl or 8 for my next car...  and v8 does have irresistible allure.

Driving thrills makes my wallet lighter.. and therefore makes me faster because i'm shedding weight... :D

Mustang is cool because V8. I never tire of the sound.

But the more I read about the Civic and how good it is.....hmmmm...tough choice.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

If I drove lots of twisty and empty roads, Type R.

Otherwise, Mustang.

I'd probably go for the Bullitt, but the Type R is a magnificent machine if you can get past the way it looks. I've driven both on track and while they're wildly different, they're excellent choices.

Odd choice: 2019 MX-5 Sport Package.

Okay.  I will add it.

These responses are awesome by the way.
Does it have to be new?

A C6 Z06 (or Grand Sport) would make fabulous summer toy...or perhaps a used 911.

Mustang
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

:censor:.  I knew this would happen.
Of course...some of us are "bang for the buck" people and stretching your $50-$60k.

Is the Bullitt and Type R cool? Absolutely. No arguments here.

As cool as a 911 or Z06 though?

It was just food for thought....

Have you owned a V8 Mustang or Camaro before? If not, you must.  :skid: :surrend: :winner:  I've owned 4 Mustang GTs and a Z28 Camaro, there's a "feeling" about driving them that doesn't fade. Its smile inducing, just the sound is enough but there's more. I wish the Dodge Challenger was shorter and lighter or I'd be after one of them, as I never had one.

Even if you don't care what anyone thinks of the looks/sound whatever of your vehicle, get Mustang GT (any version you like). However if you do care what people think, then Mustang is still the answer without question, that Civic is so OOOGly its barf inducing.  :hurl:

For sure and now you have me thinking....
And I think you should, honestly.

Some very cool cars can be had in that snack bracket.

FFS...you could even rock a beast of a car like a Viper for that coin...maybe one of the ultimate "summer toys".

Counterpoint.

I considered all the things Ron brings up when getting while shopping before I got the 1LE. In the final analysis I found that the 1LE was not only brand new and with warranty, but also faster, a better handler, and had a nicer interior that some of those cars I was considering.

For example C6 Z06 (and C5 Z06) are two of my favorite cars but my 1LE basically eats them for lunch while offering way better modern ergonomics and tech. Perhaps not as special though - IE LS7 is pretty legendary.

Not saying buy a 1LE but that analysis holds true in the main.

IF you want a Bullitt why not look at Mustang GT PP1 or PP2 instead? Same car without some of the cheese (although I love a lot of the package other than the badging).

Still love the civic man. Saw a black one earlier this week. Sick.
That's (sorta) true....if you're going to a track.

But nobody is eating anybody else's lunch on the street if we're being honest. So in that case, "coolness" might play a bigger role. It certainly would in my case.

As cool as a 1LE, Civic R or Bullitt is....neither would be anywhere as cool or special as rolling around in something like a C6 Z06 or this...at least for me. Plus without the nannies, they'd be more pure, more raw...more analog. More of a drivers car if you will. What you might look for in a summer car. And as you point out, legendary engines are indeed near every gearheads heart.

944 Turbo? They're appreciating faster than a Buick, lol!!!

For that kinda cash I'd be looking at a 2009 -2011 911, so the 997.2 version. No IMS issues, solid DI engine, last of the hydraulic steering 911's. But I'm a Porsche guy, so take all of that with a grain of salt.

Next up I'd look at a used Vette, or an AMG SLK if you want top down fun.
