1995 Acura Legend...should I?
« on: March 30, 2019, 10:57:24 pm »
So, I have an opportunity to buy a 95 Legend GS 4 door. Car has had the same owner since 04, he bought it with 160,000 km and it sits at 189k now, barely driven the past 15 years. It s a south Okanagan car so the body is near mint.

Anybody own one in the past? Suggestions? I'm not a Honda/Acura guy but being a mid-90's car I would imagine its still the reliable/well built products Acura was known for.

This guy bought a ‘94 Coupe in 2003.

Currently has just over 565k MILES on it.

Go for it!

Thats pretty cool! This is the GS version sedan so it has the higher HP "Type 2" engine. Looking on the Legend forums they seem pretty solid with the exception of blowing head gaskets. First thing I'd have to do is a timing belt service.

It's an auto sadly. Always liked the styling of this gen Legend. I'll probably snatch it up, keep it till I'm bored with it lol.

Yup.  Not long after they struggled a bit with some issues like the crappy five speed ATs.  Those last of the line Legends were great cars.

Yes get it. And then join the RAD club here on the forum.

Then we all can go down to the US for Radwood.

Would certainly be interesting to have a car as a daily driver that is almost 25 years old.  Decent power too, 230 hp.  Top trim.  Last year of the Legend.  Not sure how much it's costing, but can't imagine the resell would be high if you get bored of it.

So basically whatever I feel fair to offer its mine. It hasn't been driven for years now (been covered thankfully) it fired right up with a boost. I'm going to go right through it, replace the timing belt, h2o pump, belts, tires, and all new oils. Might keep it till I'm bored and then resell. I do notice its quite a pretty car, it has RWD frontal proportions (thanks to its longitude mounted engine I guess) it's also so tiny by todays standards, low and compact. I bet a current Civic would look huge beside this thing.

Does the driveshaft go through the oil pan? I know the Vigor was set up this way but no idea about the Legend.

What about brakes?  Doing all the work yourself?

So, it's FWD but with a longitudinal engine?

Yes, the engine sits north/south and seems to sit quite far back from the front of the car. Not sure how the driveshaft is configured.

I'll do all the work myself less the T-belt, that I'll save for a pro as there is no room for error.

Yep. Aren’t Audis like that too? Seems a little overly complicated but if it works...

My 5 cyl Audi 5000 has a north/south engine but it sits so far forward there isn't even room for the radiator, that sits off to the left side of the car at a sharp angle towards the fender.

The Chrysler Intrepid, 300M, Concord also had longitude mount FWD configuration, but they did not have the RWD proportions like the Acura has. Notice how far forward the front wheels are compared to FWD cars.
