Hyundai and Kia spontaneous engine fires
« on: March 25, 2019, 12:43:26 am »
Watching this Go Public segment on the CBC National right now. Hyundai and Kia engines are catching on fire, even if they haven't been on for hours.

Geesh that's scary. Wouldn't want to park one in  a garage attached to a house for now.
Reminds me of a time many years ago when Fords were burning up . Tempo ,Topaz, Aerostar, etc because of faulty ignition switches.
Hopefully they figure this out.

I think thats what Hyundai and Kia should be telling owners to do with their Korean Molotov cocktails till they get the issue sorted, park them on the driveway or street.
Lighten up Francis.....

I'd park mine in Fob's driveway...

Seriously though, that is scary. Those brands have made real inroads, this could be a real setback. They need to get this handled and fast.

Korean cars are garbage, sorry to anyone who has one. They have made huge gains, but more often than not under the skin they have serious flaws still.

2011+ Elantra for example. The bottom ends of those things are made of paper. Even our GM store has worked on 3 since I started there. Hyundai had to recall all of them, screwed up the recall manufacturing twice, and really had to cover their ass against an class action. Also, their electrics are horrendous, with lights going out all the time...on even new vehicles. Oh, and their door handles fall off and their alarms go off with no way of turning them off other than disconnecting the horn.

Santa Fe transmissions? Yeah, again made out of paper.

I would rather have a FGC  :rofl2:
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

They got better in the mid 2000s and I would say their cars got just as reliable as Mazda and Nissan, but the quest for mass sales in the 2010s seems to have been problematic for them. My brother was also getting electronics problems which lead them to trade in their Kia Rio5. It was a great car when new but the vehicle would randomly unlock and lock itself.

I would say their reliability is closer to GM & Ford, not Mazda and Nissan.

They have been hiring lots of Europeans to help with design, ride and handling, etc.

Maybe they hired some German electrical engineers while they were at it?

LeClerc's previous styling exercise?

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
