The interior is utilitarian but still acceptable imo...

Ford has failed in several areas though, a couple to start:

- no heated steering wheel
- no sunroof or panoramic sunroof

And well...pricing is tots out of whack, if they don’t add incentives most people will just buy a F150.

the pricing thing will always come up...my colleague recently bought a 2018 F150 with the 2.7L EB V6, 4x4 Super Crew, complete with heated seats, power rear sliding window, side steps, tow package and maybe the FX4 package (can't remember if it had that or not)...as it is a 2018 and they are clearing them out, he got something like $12k off, so he got it for like $42k...had a ride in it last week...it's a decent truck.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

There are people who live in condos downtown with parking stalls that are less than 2.4m wide but want a pickup truck to head out to the outdoors

They should just get a Honda Passport, because apparently pick-up trucks aren't allowed to play in that segment.  Pickups are apparently only meant for farmers and contractors....not as daily-driving weekend adventure vehicles.

Lol my dad's a contractor who has been faithful to his Tacomas since 2006. He doesn't want to move up to a Tundra. Now that he's getting older and not doing the heavy lifting anymore, he uses his truck a lot less now. He was up at 400,000km 5 years ago but i wonder if he's hit half a million yet.

Ford does Canadian Tire pricing on pretty much everything, I'm sure the list price does not mean that much

count me in the small truck like group...the problem with them today is price...as the article states, they used to be cheap...fun little trucks for barely more than regular cars...not the case any more.

A lot of that was because the trucks that were actually cheap were 2WD regular cabs. No one wants those though.

well, they were certainly the cheapest ($10-$13k)...but you could get some relatively inexpensive 4x4 models too.

Yeah but now nothing else but a full load, 4x4, crew cab will sell. I mean, its the only way I would buy a truck too, but they are by far the most popular trucks on the road.
Lighten up Francis.....

I would stop short of saying 'fully loaded', but I also wouldn't buy a base-model old Ranger anymore, either.  I want niceties such as Bluetooth, Heated seats, backup camera, sunroof, etc.

I'm a solid 'mid-trim' kinda guy, which as it happens, is pretty close to the modern version of 'base model'.

In reality the step up from mid level to full is crap you do not need on a truck, 22" rims, big screen tv glued to the dash and enough chrome to make it look like the Walmart car performance aisle vomited on them. Around here, you mainly see Platinums/Limiteds/Denalis when it comes to privately owned trucks, obviously companies are not going to shell out for something with cooled seats and big rims when the employees are just going to hammer them down lease roads.

Most people who drive trucks (I am talking the vast majority):

a.) never use the bed.
b.) have never had an adventure in their life.

I kid, I kid.

More importantly, how does this new Ranger stack up against the competition.  It turns out not very well at all:

https://www.motortrend.com/cars/chevrolet/colorado/2019/chevrolet-colorado-ford-ranger-honda-ridgeline-toyota-tacoma-comparison/

For the comments made alone I would step up to the F150 because you are not only stepping up in size; you are stepping up to a much better offering.

For a mid size truck, I think the Taco and the Ridgeline are the best competitors with different usages in mind. Want to pick up some dirt at the garden centre and tow your sea doos to the lake, Ridgeline, want to go into the backwoods and hammer down some trails, Taco. The Colorado and Ranger aren't really that great and I would step up to their big brothers without a second thought.

The Z71 I'm sure is cool, but for the offroading around here, a Rubicon is a much better vehicle.

What about the ZR2?

Even the ZR2, much like the Raptor, made to run at speed over desserts deserts (thank you Vmango), not really something you really encounter around here. More rocks and low speed technical stuff where articulation is king.
